I have two concerns. First, While running at freeway speeds (above 55 generally) I hear a whining sound that slowly increases, maintains then fades out. It reminds me of a slipping clutch sound (that is an increase in rpm until the drive catches up to the clutch speed), but the rpm's don't change and it's an automatic. This happens on level ground. Possibly related is my second concern. After a 15 mile uphill climb, again at freeway speeds (generally 70+ here)upon cresting the hill, occasionally (but increasingly frequently) I have a oil cloud (a mist that I first thought was road dust until I saw the oily film on the backside of my Rover(97 Disco)and it repeated) following me for about 1/2 mile down the other side. It doesn't happen every time. I generally kick it down to 3rd for the climb and sometimes I get the whine that I originally asked about. It's not water. Help.
