FWIW, my Saudi Grille just arrived. When my bumper gets removed for sandblasting and refinishing, I'll install it then. The center piece is a metal grill, similar to the Stage One 109 V8. Its also removable.
Now once removed, I want to paint the plastic surround. I don't want the paint to flake off a few months down the road, so whats the best way to prep the plastic to accept the paint?
Thanks

CEJB,

Painting plastic requires scuffing with a medium grit sandpaper. That scuffing will provide an adherable (sp) surface for your paint.

1. Sand lightly to scuff only.

2. Wipe clean with alcohol and lint free rag.

3. Paint

4. Allow paint to cure completly prior to installation.

One thing to remember is that painting plastic will always lead to some type of flaking. This is because plastic flexs in a dynamic environment. In this case, your grill area will see harsh environment because it is the leading edge of your Disco.

Hope this helps.

Don't forget to use a primer. Two coats of primer with light sanding in between will also help. The primer will help reduce the flaking but not eliminate it all together. Krylon works pretty well. Also for sanding use a 400-600 grit wet or dry paper.
