Hi everyone I getting a little bit curious now. I followed a little bit the pingauer conversation. I really think that you pay a lot for cars like this in the USA. So I am wondering now how much my car would be worth in the USA now. It is a LR Discovery 300 TDi (Diesel), it is fully locked, has 33x10.5x15 BFGoodrich tires on CW Allow wheels. The car is black and in very good condition. It has 45'000 miles on the clock, 4.1:1 gears from ashcroft and is build in 1996. Her in Switzerland, no one would pay 1000.- dollars for a haflinger without engine, you even lucky if you can sell them. It also seem that you pay horrible prices for used Defender and Discovery. So please tell me what cars like mind are worth in the USA. Or Defenders. For exemple here in Switzerland you get a brand new Defender 90 with the Td5 engine for less than 30000.- dollars. Thanks for the information. |

Andy, do you have any swiss websites for used Defenders for sale? I'm considering bringing in a pre-'88 110. |

For a 300TDi??? I've seen a 300Tdi D90 that was was in an accident that was being sold for $30k I think. Since there aren't very many 300 Tdi's in the US it will sell for whatever the seller wants to ask for it. As long as the seller has some time they might just get the asking price. I would think most people would be willing to pay in the mid to upper $20k range for your vehicle depending on condition. I wonder how much an american POS... er... classic sells for in Switzerland? Say a 60's Mustang or any 'Vette (excluding the che'vette). |

Niall... you might as well bring in a 1993 D110 since a petition has already been filed and approved for them. Unless you really want an older one. |

Hi Al Okay if have check some magazin for old mustang and corvettes, and I also have asked a couple friends. For a corvette 1967 with the 427 engine in a perfect condition, that means complet rebuild engine and transmission an perfect paint. The would pay about 40'000.-- . For Mustangs it depends on age, and style. Most of them like the 68-69 Fastback. One Fastback in my neighorhood with 428 engine in it, and also in perfect condition was sold to holland for 25'000.--. Cameros you can get cheaper specially when they were build after 1975. This is because of our law here in switzerland. We have to give our cars to a check every 3 years. And every part that is not original must have a approvment that it is not dangerous etc etc. Before 1975 you basiclly can do what ever you want. I hope it helps you. About 10 years ago I would habe been a very good thing to import older or new cars from the USA direct, but now with the very low dollar compared to our money, its not worth it anymore. Unfortuntally. |

Al, I live in Canada. I can import any vehicle 15 years or older with no hassle. Just pay like 6% duty or something. Defenders are actually becoming a bit common up here. I'm leaning towards a Disco partly because a Disco done up for off-roading is super rare up here. A 110 is still an attractive idea though. I just sold my '66 IIa 88SW last weekend so I'm now looking for it's replacement. |

Thanks for the link Greg, but holy sticker shock Batman!! That red 110 that he has listed for over $18k USD, I could get for $10k CDN!!! And it'll cost the same for me to ship from Europe or SC, so no advantage there either. Thanks anyway though, looks like he's got quality stuff. I just can't afford US prices. |

It's pretty friggin ridiculous what US Defenders go for but I guess they're worth $30,000 ($60,000 for the 110) used if someone is dumb enough to fork over that kind of dough. Personally, for that kind of money I'd rather pay $73,000 for a brand new G-Wagen that has just about EVERYTHING on it and a 5.0 L engine to boot. But since I don't have that kind of money to squander on an off-road vehicle, I'll hang onto my '95 Disco. However, the bottom will fall out of the used Defender market when the "New Defender" comes along in the next couple of years -- even if Ford emasculates the Defender and turns it into an erzatz Exploder. |

If any of you would like to see a 14 minute and 11 MB factory video about the making and testing of the Pinz you can see it here: http://www.spanishtrailrovers.com/Videos/PinzFactory_Video.wmv This video is the official factory video from the early 70's, complete with cheesy music. |
