I need some assistance. Here's where I am, I have a consistant 'miss' (one cylinder not firing). The problem began at highway speed (75-80 mph) and has remained consistant since. ODBII code is showing P1316 (generic fuel injector issue). At this time I have already made the following changes to try and fix the trouble - all of this and no change in problem - still a consistant cylinder not firing. -New spark plugs (all 8) -Plug wires are new within past 12 months (for grins, I've tried an additional new plug wire just to confirm) -New fuel filter -New fuel injectors (all 8) -When installing injectors, cleaned fuel rail, etc. Only additional item I have found is that the first spark plug on the passenger side (nearest to the radiator) appears to be fouling, as it has a 'wet' look and has remained very black as compaired with the other 7 (nice tan). So I thought I would post, and ask for any assistance I can get prior to droping my Disco with the local dealer. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks, John |

I had a similar one once, with one plug misfiring. Eventually, after a LOT of stuff (like yours), I found a weak magnet in the dizzy (old style magnetic trigger). I set the gap to the low end of the spec (.014 from .016), and problem went away. If you have new injectors, it shouldnt be leakage there. If plug is black, sound like it is only firing weakly, if at all. Move the plug, see if the black stays with the plug, or with the same cylinder. Dont forget that even NEW stuff can be faulty (BTDT). Swap the black plugs lead with another (old?), see if problem moves or stays on same cylinder. If the problem stays on same cylinder despite changing plug, lead, cap, its either the dizzy firing of that cylinder, OR something wrong with that cylinder. Have you checked compression pressures? jp |

jp, thanks for the quick response. I have changed the plug, and wire to the black plug. Problem stays with the cylinder. My '97 has GEMS ECU and separate coils for every two cylinders. I was under the impression that the injectors fire based on the ECU. Are you referring to the crank sensor ? (old style magnetic trigger) -or- am I missing something important in my diagnosis. Your suggestion of checking compression is a good one. I have not checked the cylinder yet. thanks agian, John |
