I got a noisy actuator in the tail door. When locking or unlocking it makes that 'rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr' sound (I love to get technical sometimes ). Can this be fixed or is it time for a new one? Again, I'm asking before actually doing any research or looking at the offending part first, so please be patient with me. |

Milan, sorry that I'm not going to help but I have the same problem, mine sounds more like 'dadadadadadaddamp', used to just be when locking, now it is with unlocking as well. Still works though, I just have gotten used to it. Any help here would be nice though. Later.. Rob |

I'll let you know what I find out in terms of a fix. If mine is covered by the warranty, I'll have it replaced. If it's not, I'll attempt to fix it, unless somebody here tried already and it's not possible. |

The only thing I can give you is check the rear door for saging. Lock might not be lining up right. |

Thanks. I will do that. Just had a new muffler put on today and it's in for AC refill. When I get it back I'll examine this problem. |

Milan: My driver's door has been doing this same thing for the past year and hasn't failed yet, although mine sounds more like a ratchet missing a pawl-is that more technical? Back to the driver's door actuator, I figure that as it hasn't failed yet, I will have to get used to the noise, just like the Anti-Lock and SRS (that just came back on during a long trip) lights that have been on for just as long with no obvious detrimental effect. Yet another free option for a Rover! |

LOL Paul. Mine comes with free "oil leaks" option. |

I have 96 Disco and I went through the same thing with both of the front door lock actuators. I could not see spending the $90.00 each to replace them, so I decided I would take the door apart and see what I could see. The one observation that I made was the locks would make more noise the hotter it was outside, and I think I discovered why. If you take the door panel off and remove the actuator, you will find when it is activated that the body of it will split at the seams. This for some reason causes the actuator to run longer than necessary. I found if you squeezed the actuator tightly, you could actually prevent it from running too long and making that annoying noise. Anyway, I put one or two large zip ties around the actuator and pulled them tight...no more noise. The passenger side actuator needed a little more convincing and so I used a medium sized hose clamp and small wooden dowl. Anyhow, the locks no longer run on, apparently the hot weather must cause the seams to be more pliable. Squeezing the actuator back together will remedy the problem. Or at least it did for me. I believe someone else posted a similar fix quite some time ago, you may want to check the archives. Good luck Ted 96 Disco SD |
