I just bought a OEM changer for my D II. It's an SD and I don't think it is prewired for this so I'll have to fork over the cash at LR Cary for the cable unless someone else knows a cheaper alternative. Also if anyone has done this, any words of encouragement, steps to take, things to look out for. I guess in all, how beers will it take to complete the job and what parts need the proper amount of cursing? |

The changer in my DII is an alpine unit. I bought a new one at a stereo shop and installed it in my wifes VW Cabrio so we would have compatible cartridges. My point here is that I only paid @ $250 new for the unit and it comes with most of the cables and everything. Alpine sells connection cables to interface to most cars seperatly. I bet anything it is the same as the one you have, and I bet you paid alot more for it? If the radio in your SD isn't already wired to interface then the process might be more difficult. With the Alpine unit there is a remote to use that interfaces with any radio. Good luck. email me for the alpine model number. |

Flounder, Does your steering wheel controls work with the in dash LR radio? When you hit the "mode" button does the LR radio display "no cd" If so you should be okay. Check out: www.expeditionexchange.com/cdchangerinstall/ This is a great article on installing the changer into your DII. LR Cary is where I purchased my DII and at the time they quoted me around a grand for the purchase and install. Therefore, I have not gone that route. As far as how many beers? Well that depends on the quality of the beverage in itself. Paul '00 DII |

The one I bought is the original changer out of a D II. I talked to Cary about a new one when I bought my 01 and they told me the same thing, $950 bucks. I figured I'd come across one soon enough for way cheaper ($300). I think it will be an easy job, I just want to know if I have to take to dash apart to do it. Mine does have the steering wheel controls with the mode button but I haven't pushed it since I have had no need to yet. I'll have to check at some stereo places to see if I can get that cable for cheaper. I'm sure I can find it for half the price somewhere. Anybody that has done this, please let me know how. Thanks. |

Check out the tech article listed above. You will not have to tear apart your dash. Paul |
