My Air con has stopped working. It is kicking in when I press the switch, and I'm sure the air con belt is okay (replaced about 5000 miles ago), however it is not turning the air cold.

Could it be the canister is low on gas?

Advice / opinions please, before the British summer gets too much (not likely!).

Thanks
Horness

Sounds as if you need to recharge the system with more refrigerant

Where can I get this done? Will dealer ask me to donate a kidney for this, or can I take it anywhere else?

Thanks
Horness

I don't know about the Discos. I assume it's not any different than any other car, and I was able to charge the system in my last truck by myself.

The problem is that now you can't buy R134a. Well, in the US, at least. You might try and see what you can find out.

You shouldn't have to go to a dealership for this service, if all of the DIY options don't pan out.

Go to the switch on your collector and use a jumper wire on it to make sure it isn't the switch not letting the compressor kick in.

Something to try??

Hope this helps.

Actually, you can't buy R12, R134a is the replacement for R12 and is readily available at any auto supply store. All you have to do is buy the R12 to R134a conversion kit. The only issue is that all of the old R12 MUST be taken out before putting in the R134a because they don't like each other very much. You have (or should, to be environmentally friendly) take it to a shop to have the R12 disposed of properly instead of venting it to the atmosphere. BTW, this is for U.S. spec models only, so I have no clue about international ones.
