5 minutes after picking up/buying my 96 Disco, the electronic control for the driver side seat...quit working. Actually I could move forward, but not backwards. After messing with controls for a few minutes I had managed to move the seat so close that I was eating my knees. This was an issue being that I had a 700 mile drive ahead of me. Luckily there was a Rover dealership not far away and they were able to fix the problem ($150 new seat switch) I own the truck for 5 minutes and I am already shelling out $150!!! Ouch.

However, all was forgiven the next day when staying with a friend, I found a small dirt trial that led off into the woods. Feeling bullet proof in my Disco, I threw caution to the wind and headed into the woods. It had rained the night before the ground was soaked and the puddles deep. Had I known had bad it actually was, I would not have gone in. That being said...the Disco performed like a champ...cutting through the mud and never missing a beat. I did knock loose a fog light, but that was my fault.

This...is a great truck!

Congrats Joe!

Too bad the seat was in a bad position if not you could've spent $60 for a brand new switch or tried cleaning it yourself. Check out this site for cleaning instructions www.jpurnell.com

Start saving money for some mods!!!

damn, did they give you back the old switch??

you could have sprayed contact cleaner in there and got it to work a few more times. can only do that so long then you need to tear it apart and clean it, still not too bad.

great site! i am diggin on all the stuff this guy is doing cause i've dont it to my range rover recently or i'm still in process

here is another switch rebuild

Congratulations Joe. Damn, new owners popping up everywhere. 15 mins after we drove our '96 of the lot, the 'anti-lock' light came on. And you can be sure the Mercedes mechanics had just cleared that code before the sale

Within one week of getting my '96 with 73K I replaced the speed sensor, water pump, and starter. Now she's in the shop with noisy lifters.
I love the truck, but am toying with the idea of listing her on eBay.

Good luck with yours!

3 months 1 engine, a/c comp., and other minor problems. I love the truck and it's of road ability, but it's a pain in the ass when it stalls leaving you wondering whats neaxt 2 days before a 1000 mile trip into red-neckville GA with no hope of a mechanic. I'll Keep the truck but take my celica on the trip.

PS. It's running again :) but still have to count on the celica :(

I think a lot of disco's go through this. I've had to do PS pump, fuel pump and harness, O2 sensor, vaccuum advance, brakes, battery, and some other odds n ends. it's finally getting to the point of having all the bugs worked out I think.

My favorite was back when Disco's were brand new, I thought thats the coolest truck I've seen. My Subaru with mismatched fenders was parked next to 1,then the owner suite and tie gets in try's to start and gets click click click..... I was poor back then and was happy with my ugly reliable car.
now I can afford the truck but the repairs are making me poor again LOL. $6000.00 or so so far.
Still love the big red money pit.

One of the reasons I bought this Disco, was that I was able to verify all the maintenance records. The last being the fairly exspensive 60k maintenance. My hope is that all this attention to the truck will save me some big repair bills.

However, issues I still need to look into are:
-Check engine light is one
-The car shakes a lot over 72mph
-Back door speakers don't work

for the 72 mph shake, check tire balancing?
