I installed some 2 inch rovertym springs this weekend, well actually I installed the front two and had a shop do the rears since I couldn't find a spring compressor that would work for them. I also had the shop put in two (one for each spring) 10mm OME spacers on top of them. When I got home and took the old springs out of the back I saw he had also removed tow metal spacer type things that fitted on top of the old springs. My question is whether or not these should have been moved to the new springs and used with the OME spacers. Or if that would have caused problems. I need to know if I should bring my truck back and have the guy do it right, any help you can give me will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Carter

Carter - the stock spacers are a steel ring covered in rubber that help to cut down some noise (and add about 3/8" lift). All the ones I've seen do not fit RTE or OME springs without cutting out a pie shaped wedge with a band saw and then squeezing it to get it into the new springs. That is probably why the shop did not install them.

You could do it at home easily w/out a compressor if you unbolt the swaybar and then just let one side of the axle drop. Plenty of room to put springs in that way. (though not as quick as having a good spring compressor)

thanks Bill that helps ease my worry. Anyway, I did unbolt the sway bars but still couldnt get the axles down far enough with out pulling on the brake lines since I dont have all the stuff to bleed the lines and whatnot I figured I would just let someone else deal with it, plus they didnt charge me much.

You can fit the rubber spacers back in on RTE springs. I have mine on.. Just need to push down a little harder to get them on.

Actually, I installed my own Rovertym 2" HD springs using only a floor jack and land rover jack. As Bill suggested, lift one side at a time. The way I did it was to lift the frame with the floor jack near one wheel. Once you get it sufficiently high (near height of floor jack), then lift that wheel off the ground via the axle using the LR bottle jack. Remove the tire and slowly lower the axle/jack. Once you let the jack all the way down, you can unclip/unbolt the brake line from it's supports and then use the bottle jack above the axle and below the frame to slowly (slowly, slowly, slowly) jack the axle down.

You will be able to get it down this way if you go slowly and if you loosen and remove the clips along the frame for the brake lines to give them some slack. (you'll see what I mean if you give it a try)

When I put my springs in, I was able to force the LR metal/rubber rings into the rovertym HD (340lbs rating) springs using a little coaxing and a small hammer. It goes in easier than you think, and after you drive a few miles they will seat into the spring very well.

Not at all trying to disregard what Bill advised as I know who he is and that his LR experience far outweighs mine, but the above was my experience with it on a 2001 DII LR.

If you want more details, feel free to email me.

Oh, forgot to mention that I didn't have to remove the rear swaybar using this method. I got the idea using a combination of methods from Ron Brown and from EE's tech section.
