Has anyone BTDT as far as changing the seals (gaskets) for the rear windows? My alpine window seals are fine, but the large windows in the cargo area seals are split at the top corners. I am sure this is a common problem. I was wondering if anyone remembers recent pricing for the gaskets, and how much labor is involved? Is a DIY type job, or did you take it to glass shop? Thanks in advance for anyone's insight!+ Cheers, Ted 96 Disco SD |

I did mine - about $35 each for the side windows and $45 for the rear. I paid a local window shop $50 per to do the install, but there is a write up on how to do it yourself (do a search). FWIW - mine are already starting to crack (about 6 months later). |

just use black silicon to fill in the cracks. mine cracked and i used the silicon about a year ago. no leaks (knock wood). |

Robbie, I'd like to try that with my Disco, but where can you purchase Black Silicon?! |

easy to change out seals. take out old seal and window (cut seal, etc). fit new seal on window. run thin cord along the perimeter of the seals outer edge (leave a couple feet extra). place window into position with extra cord hanging to the outside of the truck. push/hold window into place and start pulling the cord to seat the seal outer lip over the body. once all the cord is pulled out, window is in place. |

Thanks to all for your suggestions! I have seen the black silicone repair done on a black disco, and it was hard to see until you got up close. But it was wasn't the neatest looking repair when you got within a few feet, even though the black paint tended to hide it. Will the gasket being split allow water to get into the cabin? I noticed my rear carpet was wet under my cargo liner. I was wondering if this is where the water might be getting in? If the gaskets are only $35.00 each I may try and change them myself. Who has the best pricing for the gaskets? Is this a dealer only part? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks to all again! Cheers, Ted 96 Disco SD |

got my tube at Trak Auto I think. I imagine most any auto store or hardware store will have it. just be careful with it and don't make a mess. |

I got the black silicone for mine at home depot. If you are really careful, it isn't noticeable at all an it seems to be a permanent repair. My fear with intalling a new seal is that it will have the same design flaw that caused the old one to fail. -jeff |
