I've looked at pictures of other 95 D1s on EBAY and I noticed that they all have a black panel under the two front seats that hide the mechanisms. I, however, don't have these. I do have the CD Changer on the driver side, so I wondered if that was why, but there is nothing on the passenger side as well. It would be nice to hide the electrical stuff under there as well as protect it...can I buy these panels? Am I supposed to have them?

It depends on the year.

My '99 DI had beige panels to match the interior. The earliest vehicles didn't have them, then they had black ones, then the beige.

I'm sure that you can buy them, but I don't want to know what they'd cost.

One thing that happened all the time, was that people would whack the cover to it with their heel, jamming that panel so that I couldn't easily get to the CD-changer. It would have been better if it hadn't come so far forward, IMHO. It didn't happen to the one on the driver's side, except, sometimes after the wife had driven it she would have done the same thing, but she always corrected me, saying that I had done it and not noticed, lol.....

FWIW...

I have a '95 with a stock changer and I have the black panels on each side. Best bet would be to find a rolled/wrecked truck and see if you can get the panels.

Sounds like a good plan. What about those Rover Cannibal people?

uhhh, well i don't think anyone can actually recommend them from this board. there are a few wrecker places in Richmond I believe or at least some people parting trucks in the state. ask around and someone should point you in the right direction.

Well, that makes sense. I would rather travel to Richmond that ship something from Oklahoma!! Thanks

Sus, don't worry about shipping from Oklahoma, you'll just never get the part :)

Check eBay again for the panels, sometime there are a few for sale. I am missing the front covers for my 96 DI.

www.aaronauto.com might have them.

you might try with these guys first (I know they bought someone's wrecked DI from this board) so they may know of some yards or who parts them out locally.

Rob, that's just the access-panel.....

Some earlier Discos didn't even have any of the seat-base surrounding panels, they are just open under the seats. I think Sus is saying that hers doesn't have any of the panels, and wanted to add them.

ohhhh...

yes, well now that i look, that add is for 96 and up.

i'd actually prefer no panels at all, can fit more shit under the seat that way

yeah, there's some good storage space under there, but the damn over-engineered panel system sucks. I've got a first-aid kit and a "when the shit hits the fan" stuff sack under the driver's seat, and a 20' chain, padlocks, flashlight, misc shit under the passenger seat. Bad thing is that it's all hard to get to because of the odd design. The driver's side "kick panel" like in that pic Rob posted is looooong gone.

Yes, Leslie, my seats don't have any sort-of surround panels whatsoever. Maybe it's not worth doing, but since I have electrical hardware under each seat it doesn't add any storage for me to have them open.

JUst a FYI.. The IAA place in Ashland, Va will only deal with dealers. My Dad's place is right down the road and I had him look into it for me when I was up there. I wanted to look over the wrecked Rover when I was there but his friend that worked with a dealership was out of town.

I had the black panels but took them off. If you want them make me an offer. I'm in Canada, so the $$ conversion works in your favor. Email me for more details. :)

my '95 had them, but I tossed them out. they're really weak, so I imagine a lot of them break on people and get removed.

Sus,
Don't spend more money on these things than you'd be willing to burn. Though they do add a bit of asthetics to the truck, they ARE flimsy and the doors break quickly. You may find yourself with broken plastic as soon as you install it. I'd give you mine for free but they're all cracked up.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I guess maybe I should be glad they are off the truck...I'm sure the previous owner tossed them...when he tossed the front rubber mats too!! :(
