I installed two Optima yellow top batteries in my DII last week. Everything works fine but today I had the Disco running for 5 min. before I got in & noticed the battery light was on, so I applied the gas pedal & it went off. Has anyone else experienced this with their Disco ?
 Thanks,
 Brian

 Hey Brian,
I'm running 2 Optima Blue top marine batteries and have had no problems. How do you have them wired?

Could you post a picture of your setup? The only reason I can see for the light going on is with 2 batteries in parallel the resistance is half of what the alternator is expecting, so on idle the charging light might come on due to "excessive" amps drawn... This is a WAG of course...

Uhoh, trying to apply Ohm's law to something that is haunted by the Ghost of Joseph Lucas...

 Carl,
This is how I ran them. (1st)Battery closest to radiator + side post to starter, + top post fuse panel & pos. of other battery, - top post ground bar & other cable going to other battery (2nd) battery + lead to winch & cable to other battery, - to winch & other battery. What I did do is cut the end off of the factory ground that went from the ground bar to the stock battery.
 Thanks,
 Brian

Sweet. I didn't realize that the Optimas are that compact! Did you fabricate a shelf for them, or did you just cut the box appart...?

 Carl,
I pulled the plastic box out & fabricated a tray out of 3/16" aluminum (worked great) do you see anything wrong with the way I wired them ?
 Thanks,
 Brian

No, the way you wired them is fine. The issue is still the alternator is/might be stressed at times due to the fact that is potentially is getting taxed more. I don't think it will be a problem, and I plan to install my batteries in the same fashion. But the occasional battery charge flicker might occur. But there is a reason for selling those battery charge seperating devices I'm sure... Could the reason be that the alternator will have a hard time bringing both up to a full charge or...? But with your setup there is less to go wrong I guess, and that is always good.

 Carl,
I was thinking the same thing about the alt. being under more stress & that is why when I applied the gas the light went off.
 Thanks,
 Brian
