DVD, CD all in one. No need for two head units. It does include a unit that would fit fine under the passenger or driver seat for the sound decoding.

I thought he was talking about the in-vehicle DVD player that LR has coming out for the Disco II. It fits in the headliner above the front seats so the little tykes can watch powerpuff girls all day long.

I bought a portable Toshiba "wide screen" DVD from Best Buy (around $1000). I mount it on cubby box when we travel, also purchased a power inverter so I don't have to rely on the battery life.

The problem with having an permanent/installed system (at least where I live in the frigid pacific northwest) is that the LCD screens can freeze. I've been told by repair folks that it costs around $100/square inch of screen to repair a frozen screen that was turned on before it thawed out (hence my desire to have a protable/removable system, not to mention it's great on the plane and is great for my son when we're at a motel.
just my .02 though

Man, now don't tell me you got this DVD action instead of some good tires and good shocks.

Hey John,

Dweb need to press the Moab viedo to DVD. If you cant go out and wheel in your LR at least you can watch someone wheeling, Sort of like the fireplace viedo at Christmas..

I say screw all the DVD units out there. Buy a laptop w/a DVD player and mount it up with the cassette tape adapter or some other external speakers for sound. Or, get some splitters and hand out headphones to the folks in back.

Much more versatile setup.

The Pioneer is a piece of sh!t, I have had to replace 2 in the past 5 months at work. Screen retraction design is poor, you can buy decent screens separate at local car audio shops for fairly cheap, my Dvd is under my passenger seat, and yes I have already done springs/shocks/bumper/roofrack/lights/Ct hood. The laptop idea is nice but if you can afford it buy one you can install in the vehicle.

you can find a basic laptop for $300-$400 bucks with a DVD player. then it becomes a movie watcher, street atlas(even better connected to GPS - you now have something better than a $1000 lexus gps system), game machine, etc. all great for being on the road with back seat passengers who need entertaining.

I'm in the process of installing one for my kids enjoyment right now. I had purchased a Jenson overhead mount tv for my wifes van, but it wouldn't fit... so I rigged up an 'arm' for it and made it into a floor mount. I'm mounting the arm to the back of the center console with the TV positioned a few inches above the center console (just the right height for the kids!).

I'll take some photos when I'm done. I love to rig stuff. :) Total cost will be maybe $400 + whatever time it's taken me to rig stuff.

Here are some photos as promised. I've still got to clean up a few wires, but you'll at least see how I rigged it up.

Here's a photo taken from the cargo area. The TV is mounted to a 'goose neck' arm so it's bendable. The TV also swivels back/forth/left/right. You can see that the VCR (for now) is mounted under the passenger seat... DVD player will be added soon.

Here's a view from the rear seat, drivers side.

Here's a closup on how I mounted the gooseneck to the center console. I drilled holes in the black plastic cover, then placed plywood behind it so that screws could have something to bite into.
