I have been trying to program a new keyless remote for my 94 Discovery. The old one went for a swim in the ocean.I have followed the instructions from the FAQ section, but can't access the alarm. The horn never sounds and the led does not light. When it says to release the hood switch I am assuming that you just pull the lever? Does anyone have any pointers?
Thanks Charles

Charles,
The shop manual says to release the hood switch. I would either have another person hold the switch down or use something like duct tape to hold the switch down. The steps in the manual are:
1. Starting conditions: ignition off, doors unlocked, bonnet switch depressed.
2. Carry out instructions 3 to 9 within 8 seconds.
3. Switch ignition ON.
4. Switch ignition OFF.
5. Lock doors.
6. Unlock doors.
7. Release bonnet switch.
8. Switch ignition ON.
9. Switch ignition OFF.

If alarm is correctly accessed, horn will sound and LED will light. It is now possible to program two handsets of correct frequency to vehicle alarm ECU. This must be carried out within two minutes.

10. Press and hold down button on first handset until dash LED flashes.
11. Repeat instruction 10 for second handset.
12. The LED will extinguish if both handsets have been initiallised correctly.

I hope that this helps. I have a single button remote from my 94 D1 that died. I am in the US, just in case you are not.

Charles,
The hood/bonnet switch on the 94 should be on the right hand side fender, just behind the battery. It is normally depressed by the hood when it is down. On my new 98, it is on the left hand side, but the same distance back.

Enjoy,

Bill M.

Would this same process work for a 97 Discovery?

I too would like to know if this will work with the remotes that have two buttons. Which one would you hold down?
