I have seen the voluminous archives on treating rust. But they are not absolutely idiot proof, and that is what I need. I have a nickel to quarter sized bubbled paint area inside the rear door above the wheel well (in that little corner area - this must not be unheard of). What exactly must I do to stop this. I imagine I can clean it up with naval jelly, but then what? Do I just get some touch up paint and cover it? Should I treat the spot with another compound?

Put some POR15 on it, this stuff works great. A little expensive but alot better than the stuff you can get at pep boys. Just repaired some rust areas on my 92 RR and this stuff is solid. Have a look at this link:

I have the same problem on my '95 Disco. I would assume that it's a problem area with these trucks. If I would've caught it before the warrantee ran out I would've had the dealer fix it for free. I haven't had it fixed yet because I'm trying to come up with a way for it to not happen again. Any idea's would be appreciated. Good Luck and Thanx.

PS What is the corrosion warrantee? 10yrs? 5yrs?

Thanks. I just ordered the starter kit. I would have easily spent $11.00 at Manny, Moe, and Jack's.

Just a FYI on POR 15. Do not let it sit in contact with the sun. If it is on an area that sunlight will hit it make sure that you cover it with a good coat of paint. How good is it? I have used it on my 70 MGBGT on the floor pans and some surface rust on the gas tank. It has been 3 years now and no rust has started again. Just brush off the flaking rust and paint over it. I have also used in on the 55 MGTF in smaller places (under the pedal box) and it is still doing great. Just make sure you wear rubber gloves with this stuff. It will not come off if it gets on your hands!

I've got the some rust in the same place on my 98 Disco.

Anyone know if the corrosion warranty is still 6 years in the UK? I've got some bubbles appearing on my wheel arches too.

Also POR15? What is the UK equivalent to this? I've not seen it anywhere.

Help and advice on the arches would be appeciated to (and no cutting suggestions!) ;)

YES! I'm a big POR15 fan too. If Florida, everthing metal rusts eventually due to the high heat and humidity. At the first sign of rust, I get out with my little can of POR15. I only buy the small cans of the stuff (that comes in the starter pack) because you can only open and close the can a couple of times before it seals itself shut.

I have never used it on aluminum, only steel.

Thanks,
Mike B.
