Is there any way to check if the stepper motor is working properly, what do you look for when it is taken off the engine?

AFAIK, it controls the idle under different engine loads. So if you switch on the A/C the rpm´s will drop a little. The stepper motor opens a little then letting additional air into the plenum chamber thus rasing the idle again.

So clues for its operation can be had in situ, no ? Cleaning it should be sufficient then. At least the Workshop manual I looked into gives no bench-test procedure.
