When using the remote, my drivers side door won't unlock (well actually it does about 30% of the time, but most of the time it doesn't). I have to open the rear door and reach in and manually pull up the look. All the other doors unlock just fine. And they all lock just fine. I have a 98 disco 1. How would I fix this? |

The problem could just be your actuator (little electric plunger that pushes the lock open when you hit the key, but that is NOT the problem I am having. Here is what I think is wrong... I have a '97 and both my front AND rear do the same thing. I have to use my key. I haven't taken too much time to tackle it, but I have pulled the door panel off a few times and it seems to be this part number... MTC7592 $60.00 This price is from Nathan Crabtree at www.discountrovers.com It is the part that actually catches the latch, and where the actual locking takes place. Every thing else it tied to it. |

Is there a way to adjust the actuator? If so how do I go about doing this? |

Todd, There have been some people who sprayed a lot of oil in the actuator to get it to work. I had the same problem. i would first try that if not get a new actuator. It is very simple to switch out. |

I've had almost the same problems except my doors wouldn't lock half the time. Since I already had my door apart, and the actuator I had ordered was on back-order I did a little riging. I noticed that when I slightly pushed down on the lock button that it worked properly. In addition to heavy lubricant, I hooked a long (carborator linkage type) spring onto the arm that the acuator attached to. I have the parts now but I haven't bothered installing them since it's still working fine (1 year). In your case, I guess hooking up a spring the oposite way may work. Don't get me wrong, you will be better off with new acuators. |

Don't be so quick to condemn the actuator. I did and spent a bunch of money I didn't need to. All I needed to do was lubricate the latch mechanism. Now that the latch mechanism doesn't bind, the doors lock like they're supposed to. Paul |

I have a similar issue. My rear D/S door won't open from the inside. I have tried engaging and dis-engaging the child proof switch (who decided to put that back there anyway) but it still doesn't open? It feels like the door handle does not require as much pressure to pull it as the opposite side like it's not attached in there. Any ideas? Also, anyne know where I can get more of the clips I'm bound to break while removing the panel? |

Daniel: Remove the panel from the inside of your door. The rod that goes from the handle to the latch has worn or come out of adjustment. Adjust it so that the travel is slightly greater. The end will be threaded with a bellcrank configuration, just like your model airplanes when you were a kid. As for the clips, you will likely break a few, but use a steady hand and you should be alright. You can survive with a few missing. |

Cool, I can handle that. As far as those tabs, I would like to also replace a few that I think are broken in the front P/S door while I'm at it. The front door panel is popping out over the weather stripping at the bottom of the window. |

Daniel: The top of the door panel is not (to the best of my recollection) attached with the nifty christmas trees (believe it or not, that's what the work instructions and control plans call those parts). The top of the door panel fits into a track in the side of the weatherstripping. You will see what I mean when you get your truck apart. Paul |

Paul, I think I know what you mean. I have replaced it a few times. It keeps popping out and I figured I would need to replace a broken clip in there to keep it in place. If the clip is not the problem, what would you suggest to correct this? |
