Hi there, a few weeks ago the topic was discussed somewhere here but didn´t come to a conclusion. so again: has someone changed the brake calipers (front). There are several manufactures and suppliers (parts stores, racing part suppliers etc.) listing manufacturers like AP (automotive parts) who make bigger calipers. I am thinking of 6piston calipers that should give a "better" hydraulic ratio and therefore more power. Any info (like part numbers )or alternatives are appreciated. Thanks in advance, Hendrik |

How about changing to vented front rotors if you have a Disco I? This is my delema... I am presently purchasing new HP rotors which are slotted and cross drilled, plus Kevlar pads |

Thanks for the input, timspitfire ! I´m afraid that will not give more power. Vented discs make them more fading resistant only. As will do the cross drilling/slotting. Some say the Kevlar pads grip better (which would help but only a little) while others say they have to get hot first to do so. And some think the kevlar pads (cause being harder) produce more wear on the rotors; easier to replace the pads than the rotors then. It´s just that I like the feel/possibility to have the brakes lock up under all driving conditions (ok. locking prolonges the braking effectively, thats not the point). Not that the brakes in stock form are particularly insufficient but drive a 130" Defender with bigger tires and 1/2to on the load bed and you will see what I mean. And I am tall and do some exercise so I CAN depress the brake pedal hard. The standard Disco/RangeClassic system relies too heavily on the servo assistance for my liking. |

timspitfire, You can change to vented rotors in the front, but you will need to either change out the calipers to early range rover fronts, or D-90 fronts. The ALternative is to purchase a spacer kit from the uk, and rebuild your current calipers with the spacer kit, which will open them up to accept the wider vented rotors. Bill Davis at Great Basin Rovers sells very nice DBA (Disk Brakes Australia) rotors in Vented, Slotted, crossdrilled combinations. You might want to check his stuff out too... ~Scott T. |
