My muffler is dead. Looking for a basic muffler (not full exhaust sytem) replacement. Thinking about gettig a Flowmaster, but don't want to be screaming down the road. Anyone else have an aftermarket brand that worked? The resonator is off and will stay off.

What are the specs of the flowmaster? Whatever I get, I am hoping to order online and then have somebody put it in for me.

By the way, thinking of doing the cats at the same time... Any thoughts there are appreciated. I have minimil clearance on the cat near my front shaft, as it is custom and thinker than stock.

I have a 50 Series and I have been very happy with it. It is not too loud for me, but I don't know what other people consider too loud. You could even get the Delta Flow which is supposed to cut down on resonance and be a little quieter, although I have never heard one in person on a Disco.

Matt - do you know the specs and dimensions or have an exact part number for it?

the flowmaster isnt TO loud, in my opinion. i think it sounds just right, the way a V8 truck should sound. Apparently it is pretty loud though, as people do often duck and run when i come screaming by..:)

Well, I guess it is all relative. Right now I have no muffler. On the occasion that I drive my rover to work, I really hate the annoyed stares from my neighbors through the windows as I chug chug out of the garage and down the driveway and wake up the kids.

Plus, it just sounds like a major piece of shit with nothing to shape the tone at all. If the Flowmaster is loud but at least sounds clean, if that makes any sense, then I could do it.

Matt,

There are a lot of types on there. Know which one you used? I still have the stock one sitting in the garage, so I maybe simply measuring it would do it?

Tom-
Check out www.spanishtrailrovers.com. Check out their tech section, and the article under mods about updating exhaust. Bill Bettridge just sent me the link this AM. Perrone Ford has a good article on aftermarket exhaust. I'm dealing with the same thing right now. Need new cats. Summit Racing has universal cats, and I just need to make sure which one fits our discos. Not sure if it is the same one Perrone used for RR.
Keep me posted, and I'll do the same.
Enoch
PS-Did you receive the check for the GPS?

I'm pretty sure mine is a 52556. It is 2.5", has the offset inlet, and a center outlet.

Thanks for the info, Matt.

Enoch - yeah, got the check. Haven't been to bank to deposit yet. I'll do some checking on the cats.

Whatever you do, stay away from the Borla system. It is too loud. I am thinking about trashing the muffler and putting on a Flowmaster 50 series. Is this possible?

Probably. Although you are going from stainless steel to otherwise, loosing that benefit. I would get a new system welded up at a muffler shop and sell the Borla used.

if you think the borla is to loud, then the flowmaster will defintely be to loud. I did the flowmaster because i didnt think the borla was loud enough.. fwiw
