Thanks for the assistance in removing the factory radio on a 1997 Discovery. In our case it was being removed to get the serial number from the back of the radio in order for the dealer to look up the security "code" for the radio. Apparently ours had been changed and was not on file correctly by VIN number. Here are some tips in case others have difficulty. The radio is secured in the dash mounting sleeve with 2, 2mm allen head screws on each side of the radio. The screws adjust latches on each side of the radio that secure it to the dash. The screws do not come all the way out and should only be loosened until slight resistance is felt. Remove the radio by putting your fingers in the cassette slot and pulling the radio out of the dash. The rear of the radio is supported by a single stud in the back center of the radio which slides into a round receptical on a bracket mounted inside the dash. When reinstalling the radio make sure the stud slides into the bracket in order for the radio to slide far enough into the mounting sleeve in order for the latches on each side of the dash to engage when the allen screws are tightened. You may need to put your fingers in the cassette slot and "raise" the rear of the radio slightly in order for the stud to align with the slot. Tighten the allen screws until slight resistance is felt and check to ensure that the radio is secure in the dash. |
