I just had to yank out my dash to replace the heater core (Whoopee) and now, miraculously, the only thing that doesn't work is the radio. After I popped in the code, no sound comes out. I cranked up the volume on the radio and the dash controls and can just hear a faint sound in the rear, mostly bass. I checked all fuses and the connections on the radio itself. I heard that when you actually take the radio out, it may have to be reset or something. Anyone know? I can't take it to the dealership for something like this after I replaced the heater core myself. Talk about humiliation. |

I am dying to hear what others have to say about this. I had the same freaking problem, but I never took mine out of the dash when it did it. It was cutting out before it finally said no more. It was very aggravating because only the bass, which was muffled, would sound. I thought it was the pre-amp under the seat, purchased another pre-amp, and it didn't fix the problem. I then pulled my stock unit out, and destroyed it because I got it crossed in the frame, pulled too hard on the faceplate and busted it. Since then, I purchased an aftermarket unit, and have spent too many hours trying to re-wire around the pre-amp (had to do because the unit was powered). I posted a couple of notes here looking for advice on wiring around the pre-amp and didn't get a response. No biggie, so I tackled it myself. By the way, don't waste your time trying to find a stereo wiring diagram on the net. I couldn't find one and I searched for hours on Yahoo, Google and AltaVista. After applying some logic, I thought I figured it out, but there was a short somewhere and made it sound terrible. I spent about 5 hours on it yesterday and decided the hell with it, I am going to pay someone to take care of my screw-up. I should have done that in the first place. There are others that e-mailed me and said they too were having the "no sound" blues. I never heard any resolve to the problems though. Good luck, and if you do figure out what it was, please post a note or send me one directly so I can sleep better. Oh yeah, the CD Changer is for sale. $250.00 including shipping takes it. It sounds like the fuse on the amp by the pass. footwell may need a new fuse. That would explain why you can hear the subwoofer but not the mid/high range sound. Might be the connector got knocked out of the amp also. on the 96~99 DI the amp is to the right of the bottom of the glove box. You will see a paper type cover that you can unscrew some plastic gromits and pop the paper cover out and see the amp kinda wedged between the glove box and the outter wing.. Hope this helps... BTW I think on the DI 94~95 the amp is under the seat. JK |

No need for a wiring diagram. Take a voltmeter and find the B+, B-, and acces. on the 12V setting. Then run new wire from speaker outputs on new head unit to the kick panels and rear pillars. You can access the factory wiring AFTER the amp. Use a VW antenna adapter and you are set. Chad |

Fixed it. It was the 15 amp fuse on the lower satellite. I didn't check it because it had the door lock picture on it . The radio amp must be on the same circuit though because when I replaced the fuse, it lit right up. Just an FYI in case it ever happens to anyone else. |
