Okay guys,

how long will a LR engine last?
I'm reading below how Toyota Land Cruisers are good for 200k, with out any major work.
I'm hoping to see at least half of that before getting in to my 01 DII's engines internals. This comes with regular oil changes, Techron every 7k and an off-roading schedule of once or twice a month. Is this a realistice expectation?

Do we have any 100+K mile rigs out there?

Thanks

Neil

148K and running strong after seven previous owners. But, that's on a DI engine, 3.9 serpentine. So far, no engine issues-everything else, but nothing major.

Just bought a 102K D-90. Engine rebuilt at 80K and she runs damn strong. It's a '97 4.0 BTW.

George has almost 300k miles on his RRC I think. And I don't think he babies it. I've heard of many RRC 3.9 with over 200k on them.

I got 395,ooo miles on my 89rangie with only head gasket replacement at 370,000 miles. Also transmission and transfer case (borg werner VC)still original and no work on them yet.(knock on wood).
3.9 v8s did not suffer from valve problems and there are a lot of 3.9 rangies out thare with over 25o,000 miles.
Babying a rover is not agood idea.they need to be used and driver hard as advertized .
I only hope my 4.0 disco II gets at least 200,000 miles before I will need to work on those heads.

110K on my 95 DI. Replaced so far....water pump 67K (warranty), fuel pump(99K), alternator (90K) and starter(98K). It has its quirks and left me hanging over 4th of July, but overall is a damn good rig.

Sounds like the 3.9L was a longer lasting engine. What are the major differences between the 3.9 and 4.0? As far as Toyota Land Cruisers go, with the exception of the 3F engine the straight 6cyl. gas engines typically last between 300k-500k miles before needing any real repairs.

128k miles on a 95 DI, 3.9. Replaced water pump (preventive maintenance)at 120k and fuel pump (crapped out) at 115k. Still pulls strong up hills. I lose about half quart of oil every 5k miles. Great f***ing engine.

135K on a 3.9 DI, still running strong other than the occasional leak.

One of my wheeling buddies is just about to cross over 140K on his 4.0 DI....

PM,

I meant to say the heads were rebuilt at 80K. Don't know the reason, as I just acquired it. But she runs damn strong now...

Sorry, George, meant to say almost 400k. Don't know what I was thinking when I typed that. Looks like the 3.9 are bulletproof. Although I suppose the large number of them means you'll see more with high mileage. I'm definitely leaning hard towards a '95 Disco rather than a '96.

Niall, youre darn right. Its not worth worrying that someday you'll have to replace the valves. Not to mention the ease of reading the check engine codes anywhere and anytime. That alone is a major plus.

hope im not Jinxing myself...

95 Disco 114K, with just the typical problems. power steering hoses leak like a sive, the occasional oil leak here and there. the only really pain in the ass thing is an exhaust leak on the bottom of the exhaust pipe flange...

Kingfish, I hear ya. Also, as I'm in university, I have no money. A truck with a more common engine which will be easier to get cheap/used parts for is definitely an asset to me. Just found a '95 with the Safari rack and 113,000km but they want silly money for it. Maybe I should give them a call and see how flexible they are. It's also over 2000kms away ;-(

94 DI with 129,000 - new radiator, tires, that's about it

95 DI with 85,000 - new alternator, tires

Lots of fluid spots in the driveway, but running strong...

Good luck!

What about the 4.0 ? I have a 97 D1, some tell me thats the best Disco to own, while others say the 4.0 is trouble. Does anybody have a 4.0 with high miles? Highest Ive seen was a 97 Range with 130k. My truck has 92k.
