Does any one have a site for the routing of the surp belt on a 95 D1,3.9? Just had mine worked on and it currently rides just over the top of the altenater pully, dosen't look right, but may be. Thanks

Search the archives... Garrett(gp) has a picture of it that's gotten lots of mileage

I'm sure if he sees this, he'll gladly post it.

No it wasn't...he had it going from #3 to #5 then over #4 and around to #6 then #1 and #2, which caused the battery to run down as the alt wasn't charging properly. Leslie you saved the day, thanks again...all is well now.

Boy, are you in for a surprise!

I have a 95 D1, 3.9 liter, the routing you have discribed is the same as I found on mine. The belt provided by the parts houses is around 88.5". when you run the belt as described above, you will find that the belt will only come up to the middle of the alternator pulley, (with the tensioner at full extension)

let me save you some time... Atlantic British is the only place I have found that list a different size for the 3.9 vs 4.0. Is it the correct size? I've been too cheap to order and find out (if you do order their belt, let me know about the fit?)

I found that I could squeeze a 90.5 inch (7 ridge) belt on mine, and route it as described in the manual. The next size up from the 90.5 is about 6 inches longer, and just doesn't fit. The 90.5" requires some manipulating to get it on, but when installed, there is enough (belt) play between the pulleys so as to not overtension any of the bearings. So far I have had no problems, I'm just not getting the warm fuzzies about the whole thing.

I have sent e-mail to a few of the english parts places seeking some enlightenment.. I'm still waiting for their response (it's only been a couple of days.

Let me know what you find out in your efforts.

Jeez thats strange...
I routed it just like the illistration. Put the wrench on the tensioner, pulled back the slack and the belt went on like a glove. I purchased it from my local NAPA and it's just fractions over 89"...go figure...pushing on the belt I still get movement from the tensioner, not too woried, thanks for the concern. Ster

Great! This mean I have the odd one out! Well, next time I can get with a group of Rovers, I'm gonna have to break out a tape measure and find out what is going on. With my luck, somebody put something in that doesn't belong there before I bought it.

What part number was the NAPA belt?

Thanks,

Mike
