I just got a homelink module, and I've been having problems trying to get power to the thing. The problem is, the free connection from my 96 discovery is different from the connection from the homelink module. I know it works, because I hooked a 9V battery to it and opperated my garage door, but when I try to get the module power from the free connection - it doesn't work. I've used a voltmeter to the free connection, and it says that the free connection has about 11 volts, plenty for the module. The free connection has three wires, a white/black, black, and black/brown. I figured that the white/black, and black are the positive and negative leads. On the homelink module, there are only 2 leads, a white and black. I've tried every combination, and it doesn't seem to want to work - but it works with a battery. I'd rather hook it up to the rig's power, rather then a battery if I can. How has everyone else connected their homelink system? Where did you tap your power from? What is that free connection for? |

What exactly are you trying to hook up in the rig? My rig (D2) came with the 3 buttons for homelink installed and powered. Not sure if your D1 came that way or not, sounds like it didn't. BTW, the homelink works with X10 as well, that's what I'm using instead of the overpriced homelink package. |

I bought the homelink module separate from the rig, it came off of another Discovery, but I'm not sure what year. When I took the blank plate off to put the homelink module in, and connect it, I found that the connections are different. I removed the two different connectors, and tried to directly wire them together, but I have a few problems. 1) there are three wires coming from the truck and only two from the module. 2)I've tried every combination possible, and I can't seem to get power to the homelink 3)the homelink works if I connect it to a battery. 4)there are 12 volts coming from the connection from the truck. I can't understand why the module isn't using the power from the rig. I've tried with the rig on, off, on accessories - nothing. I'd rather not use the battery, because sometimes the rig is outside, and so if someone wanted break into the house, all they would have to do is break into the rig and hit the button. |

Not sure what the 3 wire plug is for. I had my console removed this weekend, and found that the homelink wiring was a corresponding 2 wire plug on the vehicle. It wasn't white & black as the unit was, but the plug was the correct mate for the unit. I disconnected my homelink to use the wiring for a GPS, so I imagine any 12 volt source should work. The other wiring I noticed up there ran to the following: 1.) visor mirror lights 2.) sun roof switches 3.) overhead light 4.) rear view mirror dimmer/compass 5.) Homelink Surely the wiring has got to go to one of these items. Which ones don't you have? Maybe that is the one the extra wiring was for, but the homelink wire should be a two wire plug. |

Hey on an unrelated note I would like to buy the blank panel you removed to install the homelink, email me at [email protected] if you are interested. |
