yeah, don't go so fast. give it a second between when you shift into gear and when you start to take your foot off the brake. Mine D1 does the same thing if you don't give it a second to settle into gear before moving.

slack in the driveline most disco's got it. keep you foot hard on the brake when shifting to reverse, it seemed to help on my truck.

I had the same problem on my D1. I asked the dealership about the klunk several times. "Normal" was always the response. Turned out that I had broken mounts on the transfer case and on the motor. Replaced both on my motor and one on the transfer case. I also got the updated flange kit installed in the transfer case at the same time. Now, I have zero play in the driveline and no clunk.

I asked the dealership about the broken motor mounts. According to the mechanic, it's not uncommon for motor mounts to break on Discos that are off-roading a lot. Seems that the torque applied in low range as a vehcile scrambles between high and low traction situations can break the motor mounts in a relative short period of time. The dealership said the only way to tell if motor mounts are satisfactory is to apply the brakes, put the vehicle in gear, and then apply the gas. If the motor moves, then you need to check your motor mounts.

Thanks,
Mike B.
