After a trip that was in very dusty conditions I performed some routine mx that included cleaning and reoiling the K&N, rinsing out the airbox, cleaning the tube to the intake, removing the stepper and cleaning it and the throttle plate with carb cleaner. I also removed the TPS for better access to the stepper. After reassembly, the idle kicked up to about 1800 RPM. I have ordered a new TPS but could it be the stepper or MAF causing the problem? No check engine light, 96 Disco 4.0, 90K.
Any help appreciated.
Jeff

There have been many posts regarding the K&N filter and problems with the MAF, but I think MAF problem would cause stall or rough idle not 1800 RPM. Did you mess with the throttle body or throttle cable?

The oil from the K&N is presumed to be coating the MAF sensor and causing it to read improperly (fail). All I know is that my MAF sensor went out within 3 months after installing a K&N. I went back to the stock filter after that.

Thanks,
Mike B.

Thanks for responses. I don't think this is a K&N - MAF issue because it went from running fine to the high idle problem right after the cleaning mentioned in the first post. Either something got outta wack during the process or the process messed up one of the sensors.
