My key will not come out of the ignition. It can only be turned to the last point where everything actually shuts off. This happened once before with one of the two wire connectors under the shift cover coming loose. I have checked that twice but both are in place. Help anyone? |

My 97 does this too. Start up, drive forward a few feet and make sure the wheels are straight when you shut it off. It might take a few tries but this seems to work when mine does it. |

I had a 97 DI with the same problem. Go to the dealer and have a key cut from them using your VIN, not the key you already have. This cleared up my problem..Hope it helps |

I have a 98 as well and I find that if it doesn't want to let go of the key the first time I just put my foot on the brake, move the key to the forward position but, don't start the truck, then shift the car from park to drive then to park again, turn the key back to off and see if it will come out. Some times I have to do it twice. But, it works for me. |

Wanna hear a story? Same thing happened to me but I was way down in BooFoo Mexico, no tools and no command of the Spanish language. So I had a bright idea, just leave the key in the ignition, remove the remote door-lock clicker and just deal with it after I got back to the states. This would've worked out great if the stupid battery in the clicker hadn't gotten wet (and died). Had to cut out one of the back windows and crawl through to leave. The fix? Pry off the cap on the shifter and put about a penny's worth of white grease on the fingers and kedge. The key wouldn't come out because HAL 2000 thought that the car was still in gear. Funny now, but at the time I let out a stream of obscenities that still hangs like a cloud over Sonora, Mexico. Jim |
