As I drive along the highway, suddenly it is as though I took my foot off of the gas for a second or two, and then the power comes back again. Getting worse the last few days. If I slow down a bit and then try to accelerate again, the whole truck shakes until I make it downshift. Anybody have any ideas? Check engine light was on last couple of days, but has gone off, and it even stalled after starting it the other day. Maybe a fuel or fire problem? |

Sounds like could be either. I'd check plugs and wires, then consider the fuel.. |

vehicle speed sensor? What year is your rig? I had a loss of power problem a few weeks ago(not VSS), ended up being a faulty rotor arm. The spark was traveling down the rotor shaft instead of to the points on the cap. Not a problem if you have a newer disco without a distributor. |

1996 Disco with 112k on the odometer. Vibration has been happening for a couple of years, but the loss of power is new. |

I have the same thing every now and then but without the vibration. My loss of power is only on the highway and lasts for a few seconds at a time. I am sorry to say I have not figured out what it is. I am in a 97. |

I have had this problem too! I believe mine was fuel related. Symptoms were loff of power and vibration. No check engine lights. 98 with 63K on 89 octane no-name gas. |

This is a common symptom, lots of strings on the board, check your spark plug wires...cheap to replace, plugs, cap and rotor as well. They are all inexpensive to buy and an easy to do it yourself . These are the most likely problems, from your symptoms described. |

Is there any chance that this is a transmission problem? I was on the highway last night, and when it started vibrating, I shifted into neutral and hit the gas. The engine seemed to respond fine, but when I put it back into drive, the truck started shaking again. After two years of it, I am wishing whatever it is would just break so I would know what to fix. |

I had the exact same symtoms. LR replaced the speed sensor 3 times in 2 months. They thought that was the fix. It ended up needing the valve job. |

I had a similar problem this weekend. It would feel as if I took my foot off the gas and start to vibrate and then pick up speed again. It did this about 10-15 times and then would run fine. Then several minutes later it would happen again. It hasn't done it anymore since Sunday but I really need to find out what the problem was. If anyone can pinpiont it to one specific problem that would be great. Thanks Rico |

Not quite related guys but my '95 stalls every now and then at red lights in gear in D and foot on the brakes, usually happens after engine has fully warmed up. Idle otherwise is smooth. Should I also do the plugs/cap/rotor replacement? Peter |

mine has done this too.... we need to find an answer here. a couple times a month usually highway speeds...motor acts almost like ignition was turned off, if I accelerate it just sorta vibrates..not bad, so I let off and it comes back to normal and I am fine for another couple of weeks before it does it again... sometimes it will do it a couple of days in a row... also no check engine light or any warnings.. wierd.. needs to get fixed... help... |

Josh, 95% it's your speed sensor. LR replaced 2 on my 96 under warranty. Symptoms exactly as you described. peter |

Is there anywhere that I can get one of these speed sensors other than the dealership? Also, are there any posts with any pictures of what I will need to do? Thanks for everyones help, it will probably take me a couple of weeks to get the chance to fix this, but I will let everyone know if it works or not. |

look around, i've never replaced one by myself but heard it is somewhat of a PITA. what i really interested in is seeing its signal on the scope. maybe i could do away with it for good. peter |

absolutely definately positively speed sensor issue. Can occur from a bad sensor, or sometimes when it gets very hot / wet. This has come up a million times.. |
