Remove the plastic surround from around the shifter (carefully). Peel up the rubber mat and you'll see the bulb holders on both sides of the shift unit. Pull the holders out and replace the bulbs (5 watt). |

The bulbs are generic so don't waste the trip to the dealer and get robbed. Got mine at Kragen $1.99 for a 2-pack. Did both your bulbs go out at the same time? if so could also be other culprits. |

What kind of "other culprits", fuse, wiring. Just curious. Mine have been out for almost a year now and I think I might actually try to fix it this weekend! Thanks, justin |

If they did not go out simultaneously, then you are Ok, most likely just bad bulbs. Often you can tell if a bulb is bad by just holding it up to the light. You would either see a dark smoke film on the inside of the bulb, and/or a broken filament. If the bulbs went out at the same time and they are not bad, then it could be a little tricky. It would unlikely be a blown fuse, since if it were, all of your instrumentation lights would be out as well (usually dead giveaway of a blown fuse, although always check the dimmer dial to make sure it's on!). Another possible culprit is a bad/dirty connection at the "Y-connector" leading to the two bulbs. It's a few inches behind the shifter so you might have to lift the center console to gain access. Anyway, always start with the bulbs, since it's quick and cheap, and it doesn't hurt if you end up with a couple of spares in the glove box. Good luck! |
