My 95 disco is now clunking from the front of the car. It only occurs at a slow speed...like going from 10mph to a stop. It does not occur when accelerating. I have to move in 4 days so I really need to get this fixed before driving 1900 miles. Any ideas???
Thanks,
James

Do you feel the clunk; hear the clunk; or both?

I can feel and hear the clunk. No leaks from front diff and u-joints look fine.

Check the tightness of the radius arms-to axle bolts, radius arm to frame; and steering box support. I would almost put money on radius arm to axle bolts. Almost.

I had a similar problem with my D1. It turns out that it's a common fault.
The Main gearbox shaft and transfer box main gear wear causing clunking when slowing to a stop and at take off.

The solution is to replace the main shaft(in gearbox) and main gear (in transfer case).

It's a big job and cost heaps, well in Australia it does.
