Help! I haven't opened my hood for a couple of weeks. So, while filling up on gas, I try to open the hood to check the oil, and nothing! Just a slight clicking noise but no hood popping open. How are you supposed to open the hood, now??? Please help, its a 2000 DII. It's under warranty but I'm not yet ready to get it serviced and I'd rather avoid going to the dealership unless I can't get the hood open myself. Thanks, Emilio |

Ok... With my '92 after a wee bit of mud (emphasis on wee), and wee bit more washing, it did not open anymore. What I did is that I pulled on the cable WHILE a friend banged the hood where the release pin is located until it snapped open. That is how u open it, then get a good amount of grease (good amount) and grease EVERYTHING that has to do with that mechanism. for me, that ment the door hinges even... Enjoy, |

The D2's cable is known to stretch to the point that it wont' open any more. Happened to my '99 D2 after about 12 months but hasn't happened since getting the cable replaced. Kinda reminds me of an old MGB where the hazzard lights would never work. Seems like the one thing you need on the vehicle (working under the hood of a Rover or stuck on the side of the road with an MG) would always fail. |

Our D2 also did this. Tried to open the hood to find out why all the warning lights kept on illuminating. I detached the cable from the handle under the dash. I then slotted a piece of wood and lay the cable in the slot with the nipple on the end up against the piece of wood. I then pulled on the piece of wood (which did not have the restricted travel of the handle) and the hood opened fine. Did this until the car had a bout 3 other things go wrong and then sent it for all to be dealt with. Keep in mind that when the car was designed they never figured that the cabel would need changing and so they concealed it behind rivetted and welded panels. The dealer is going to have to drill and cut to get to the old cable. The job will also take at least a day. CHeck with them that they have the correct cable for your car, they stripped mine down and then found that they had ordered the wrong cable!! Good luck. www.worst4x4.freeservers.com |
