Well , I hate to break it to all the ARB lovers but the ARB tubing is about the same thickness as the LRNA tubing....

HO, the truck is looking good. Why not give us a run down of your components? Maybe include a shot that lets everyone see those Rancho Shocks hiding in there??? :)

Damn... a rare instance of anyone on DW agreeing with me and it is not what I was directing my comment to!

I was referring to the bumper -- it is not quite right. And that is being as gentle as I can be.

Yeah, I think the valet boys might turn you down if you roll up with KRB :)

Even though the LR and ARB metal isn't that different I suspect the mounting is more solid and the bars are better placed for protection of the front end, lights etc

it's too squatty looking with the KVT bob-nose bumper look,,, a little tweaking here and there will work wonders on it.

Can't help it Moe. But you are absolutely correct. The Bastard, the ARB -- both will get the job done I suppose.

But only the KVT can get the job done _and_ stoke the valet boys.

I don't like the KRB nearly as much as the KVT (or KRNA). I am sure I am in the minority, but I like the KVT as a blade only. Brush bars just don't do it for me. More of a liability than an asset. At least the KRNA KVT has the right "look" though :)

I don't like ARB because of how low it goes, and I don't like the LRNA because it wraps around. I really DO like this KRB best so far..... it doesn't wrap around, and has great clearance.

Now, when there's a K-version of the CT brush-bar, I'll be ringin' someone up on the phone as quick as I can get my pennies piled up.... :)

Nice Bar, but what happens when this hits over here? How will the NEW ARB look? Makes me ashamed to admit I am an Australian by birth.....

Out of the Sydney Morning Herald site.

"Law may force 4WD owners to fit new bullbars"

By Robert Wainwright, State Political Correspondent
July 31 2002

Thousands of four-wheel drive owners across Australia may be forced to fit smaller bullbars to their vehicles as governments face increased pressure to enforce design laws because of safety fears.

The NSW Minister for
Transport, Carl Scully, announced yesterday that he wanted a national approach to the issue, including improved designs for bullbars on four-wheel drive vehicles driven in the city.

And the public action group, the Pedestrian Council of Australia, warned there would be major insurance ramifications unless governments acted to force retrospective standards on all vehicles with bullbars.

Mr Scully said he would raise the issue at the Council of
Australian Transport Ministers when it met next week to ensure a co-ordinated, Australia-wide approach to making four-wheel drives safer.

"The issues to be discussed include making a 'reverse alarm' mandatory for all new four-wheel drive vehicles, and improving the design of bullbars fitted to four-wheel drives in the future to minimise injuries to pedestrians," he said.

"In addition, the introduction of better mirrors to improve visibility for drivers of four-wheel drives when reversing will be examined.

"Four-wheel drives with bullbars have become increasingly popular and are here to stay, so we need to ensure that they are as safe as possible when being driven in the city.

"There are many areas in which the NSW Government is trying to encourage improved vehicle design to minimise road trauma."

The chairman of the Pedestrian Council of Australia, Harold Scruby, welcomed the move, and said new design standards for bullbars would soon be released by Standards Australia.

Mr Scruby, who has championed the fight against "Mad Max" bullbars, predicted there would be major legal ramifications, including insurance claims, unless governments took a tough stance.

"We welcome the comments of Mr Scully, especially as we will soon have a Standards Australia design on bullbars," Mr Scruby said.

"It will be ready within a month. We would like all vehicles, within a reasonable period of time, to be brought up to that standard.

"If anyone argues against forcing older cars to comply then I would remind people about the changes to gun laws, seat belts and random breath testing. These are just new, safer standards."

Mr Scruby said the new standard would mean a bullbar would have to fit within the original profile of the vehicle.

It could not protrude forward of the bumper bar or be wider than the vehicle.

It would also have to slope backwards, and have no sharp edges or protrusions like fishing rod holders.

"I believe that 90 per cent of current bullbars do not comply. If governments think they can ignore this issue then they should think about the insurance implications," Mr Scruby warned.

Expect a redesign of the ARB and TJM.

What do you expect from a guy who's busi card reads "State Political Correspondent"?

The OZ I left 10 years ago was, but lately it seems to be getting as bad as the "States" (no offence to anyone) playground equipment being removed due to problems with public liability insurance increases etc. Really pisses me off.

The clowns seem to be running the circus.

when i was there two years ago it was a bit of an epedemic. passenger busses to mini cars to land cruisers. every damn car had a bull bar or some ghetto version of it, it was kind of hilarious. everyone says, oh well they have all those damn roo...

well, i think it is simply comparable to our deer problems , at least in my area. all the city busses and cars dont really need that stuff, it's all for looks.

i am in favor of having a law that says you either use it or loose it. 4x4 must offroad, sports car must go to the track. POS kids car must not be allowed to have rim's and neon under it unless it is in excelent condition or you are a real pimp.

you can add more as you think of them.

also i would be judge and jury for this particular law.

chrome is only allowed on vehicles on trailers

kyle,

you have proven you can make a really cool bumper...now stop grafting on someone elses handy work and you will truley have something.

I do like the ARB bar better then the stock one

so what does that monster winch weigh?

Kyle
Posted on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 - 07:08 pm:   Edit Post Delete Post Print Post

Musky , its far easier and cheaper to fuck around nailing on something to see how it looks a month later then it is to create crap . It also helps to blend all the versions into the truck. take a look at everything out there and fine one that looks natural ? After your search let me know what ya comeup with. I am working on my own but I fear it will not be a "Big deal" to most. I am into blending man because I like the look of the truck. That take a shit load of trial and error... WHile I am doing this people are getting bumpers here and there that I hope they are very happy with...

I agree...simple is better

the bar I have on my scout is funny book simple

but it dosent detract from the scout look so I like it way better then the ones you can/could buy

I think your on the right track....i'd tell you to ignore what people say...but now that you hung that shimmering shingle out...you may have to

looking good

I'm in favor of use it or loose it. My biggest gripe is if it's sunny and there's no one in the car with you and you're driving to work, you have to take a motorcycle.

Large black vans must have a bed in the back and shag carpetting also.

One thing you have to hand to Kyle...he's true to preserving stock LR, for better or for worse. Some of the wild-ass bumpers out there just don't mix with LR's consistency (not to be confused with banality). I like the straightforward ARB bar look, but it could use some character in the middle section like the stock brushbar (alleviate the unibrow look). Mainly I like the ARB look because I just hate my damn shitty stock brush bar :)

Kyle,

I have an ARB on my DII up in Philly if need another project bumper. I'd love to have one of your creations......... The approach angle is so much better than the ARB bumper. The only thing I would add to your current creation would be a skid plate. No winch yet, but would like to be able to mount a milemarker.........

Food for thought.............

Ditto on the offer of a DII with a donor ARB. I'm in the Metro DC area. Who knows after my trip to Paragon I'll be replacing the front and rear.
