Four feet of water + 15mph = Big Splash & Two Days of Bullshit. Pictures soon. JR P.S.- Anybody have ideas for homestyle waterproofing connections? Shrink wrap? Duct tape? |

Just had a water encounter this weekend too. If it wasn't for my ARB front bumper and it's low winch mount point I would have been okay with the bow wave but I was stopped trying to get out when my bumper drove into the bank and I had water up to the bottom of the rear tail lights. The front of the vehicle was up a little higher when I came to a stop so things are okay. I had exteneded all my breather tubes to just over the water level so I was okay other than the water that entered the back passenger area. Seems the seal on the cargo door is much better than the passenger door seals. I didn't have my camera with me so all I have is a water line on my D2. |

So you're blaming the bumper for where you were driving? :-) pwc |

Yep It's much easier to blame someone other than me. I blame the bumper for 95% of the time I get stuck for two reasons. The low over hang is much more than needed. When I picked up the bumper there weren't any other choices out there. There is also the problem that the roller for the winch mounts so low that when you do get stuck you have to dig it out to get the winch cable free. It's just a bad design. |

Ramsay, Get a tube of 'dilectic tune up' grease and put some grease on the contacts of all connections under the hood. This will help keep water out of the connections and away from the contacts. It's also good for plug wires, etc. John |

um,,, the problem isn't necessarily the lack of water proofing, but more the approach. 9 times out of 10, 4ft of water at 15mph will do some damage to the rover. rd |

Thanks John. Rob, the truck actually ran fine for about an hour after the amphibious experiment. No permanent damage either, just a bunch of wet connections. Fortunately a buddy of mine, who was out there with his Tacoma, had a leaf blower in the back (I have no idea, so don't ask.) The Stihl dried everthing up in a matter of minutes... At least until it shut down again the next day. It seems Discoveries are actually fish at heart. Take care. JR |
