Holy Crap, just when I fix my 97 discovery, something else goes wrong with the thing. Valve jobs, brakes windows breaking, sensors going out tail lights going out, speaker gnomes, loud vibrations in the rear...I make decent money but this car is going to send me to bankruptcy crt. This vehicle is starting to drain more of my money than my ex wife HOLY @$#%!!!! Now wonder the brits don't have a space shuttle. I think LR are badass off road vehicles, but Jesus Mary and Joseph, can't those Limey SOB's keep em from falling apart after 5 years??

As the owner of a 99 D2...The answer to the question in a word is....yep.

My '99 D2 was problem after problem early on but it's been getting better with age.

I feel pretty good about my '00 pig.

LR Wilmington NC replaced a Fuel sending Unit for me under warranty because the Fuel Gauge was not receiving the input I needed.

LRWC replaced an ECU under warranty when I took the pig in for the recall. Something about the SLABS and the ECU not talking.

Knock on wood, but those have been the only 2 problems I have had.

Am I happy, hell yeah I am happy.

Well, 2001 DII purchased in November 01.

LR Mainline (rules by the way) has replaced under warranty:

Brake Rotors
radiator hoses
floor mats
2 recall items
Fixed my rear passenger ashtray (back of console)

I think that's it............. But, again I commend Land Rover Main Line (PA) and Ron & Alyssa Brown for excellent customer service

I have a 00 DII and I have had my radiator replaced and a seal replaced in the intake manifold along with my rear sunroof under warranty. Otherwise I replaced the brake pads and had a few small interior things fixed under warranty as well. Otherwise It has not been so bad.
Oh ya and those 2 recalls, and I am getting ready to replace my shocks and tires and have 34k on her.

My 99 DII has had it's share of small problems, the biggest one was a roof leak that took the dealer 6 windshield replacements before finding the problem.

The dealer gave me a free brush-guard for my trouble. (but that was when BMW owned LR)

But I love the thing.

My 2001 DII has been basically trouble free. What are these 2 recalls that all you DII owners are referring to?

There was a recall on the engine ECM software to change the way the anti lock brakes work and a the throttle cable replacment. Check with your local rover dealer.

Mine has been pretty reliable. In 20 months my 00' DS2 has had:

SLS went out 5 days after purchase in Moab

Repairing SLS and found coolant leak so they put in a new engine block

Rear diff blew...replaced with TT :)

Exhaust gaskets on down tube

Airbox cracked...replaced

Probably some other stuff also, but it all goes with the territory. I am serious when I say reliable bacause the rig only left me stranded when the diff blew. Now with CDL it would leave me stranded when the front goes. The rig starts every time I turn the key so I don't complain.

Curtis, there's one heck of a compliment :)
for a two years old, it better start.

i haven't had a vehicle that didn't start every time i turned the key. one of them would only run on one cylinder out of 4.

peter,

I have had two US built SUV's that you really never knew what you would get when you turned the key. One was a '97 Expedition and the other a '95 Jimmy. My wife drove both and it drove me nuts when she would call saying the truck broke down.

Both of those spent more time in the shop than my DS2 and both came down with problems within two years :)

Curtis,

you get anything named 'jimmy' and you're probably gonna be in for a treat! :)

i've said it before. you either get a good one or a bad one, a bad one will rape you again and again, and after you replace every piece of the truck, the replacements will break.

a good one simply has small electrical problems and a few oil leaks.

chu,

...and what a treat it was :)

It was in the shop once a month for the two years I owned it. The service advisor once called me to make sure I was OK when I had not been in for six weeks. Seriously.

I currently own two D1's a 95 and 96. The 96 was well maintained, driven very little (now has only 56k) and serviced ONLY by LR when I bought it. With the exception of the fucking dash - I say that because LR should eat every goddamned penny for fixing those pieces of shit, I have had no problems (rotoflex is gonna need a replacement soon though). Then they should sue the stupid bastard that created the piss poor glue that holds the dash on...whew! The 95 has 115k on it and was, in my opinion not abused but not well maintained, the owner kinda just floated along ignoring the 52.5 and 92.5 services. I pulled the front main seal about a month and the valves have the characteristic "chatter" to them. My father on the other hand has a 97 and it was recently sent in to the tune of $4000+ thank god it was under warranty and the valve job and fuel injectors were covered. I think it's hit and miss when you condider that these vehicles are largely "hand built".
