does anybody know if the wider 255/65R16 tires that now come stock on the disco 2's will fit on a disco 1 with little or no trimming? what about the slightly taller 255/70R16's? also, is it really necessary to get H-rated tires when replacing them?....because that severely reduces the number of options one has when buying tires. also, what load rating is necessary...A,B,C,D,E,XL....does it matter? thanks in advance for any help anyone could give me. |

Derrick, I'm also looking into the 255/70R-16 mod and heard that it should work fine. The height is the same as our stock 235/70R-16, so the only difference is it's about an inch wider. At worst, you might rub at full crank, but then you can always adjust the steering stop. You don't have to stick with H-rated tires. "H" is the speed rating (130mph), since it's unlikely you'll take the disco past 100mph, an "S" or "T" rating should work (118mph). The load rating is however very important, as the disco is very heavy(2.5tons), so stick with a load index that at least matches the stock's 105 (michelin xpc). Good luck! |

BTW, if you somehow decide to stick with the stock size 235/70R-16, Tirerack is running a special on the Continental Contitrac SUV for $46 a piece! Happy hunting! |
