Thought I would throw this out to the group... Thinking of maybe selling my 96 Disco. Here's the details: 1996 Discovery - Epsom Green over Tan Cloth interior; 2nd Owner; All books and records since new; Everything works; ARB Bull Bar with Hella 500's - factory fog light switch for neat appearance; 110,000 miles; 5 speed; Only taken off road minimally in state game land in Pennsylvania; Runs perfect - quiet; solid; reliable. This is a fine running Disco in excellent shape. Has the usual noisy door locks from time to time. Has cargo cover & cargo liner. Full floor mats - Land Rover carpeted and heavy duty rubber floor mats over the carpet. No jump seats, rear air, or running boards. Has standard size Yokama Geolanders with alot of tread left. What would be a fair price for one with this kind of mileage, but is in exceptional condition? This disco is not a problem child - I have had her almost three years and only done routine maintenance to her. She is a reliable, inexpensive to maintain vehicle. Curious as to what the group might think she would be worth? Thanks in advance Ted |

I agree.... I'm in the process of buying a very similar '95 with a few more miles, and I'm under $9k; FWIW, my '99SD with 81k went at $18k... Question: does yours have sunroofs? Also, since you have cloth seats, am I correct to assume that they are manual, and not powered? FWIW, the ARB doesn't add value, but it doesn't have to detract from it.... if I bought one that had an ARB, first thing I'd do is chuck it... IMHO, YMMV..... Oh, location also factors in.... where are you? Good luck! -L |

Wow, I just checked the '95 again to see if I had made a mistake. For my zip code, TN, 37642, a 1995 Disco with similar mileage, no brushbar but I did check alloy wheels, came up $6370 for a private party value (which is right at the price that the bank said the loan value was), and $8385 for retail.... which was the initial asking price. Interesting..... -L |

Thanks for all the responses. I was kind of encouraged until I got to the Kelly Blue Book price.... To answer some of the questions: I am located in southeast Pennsylvania. No, unfortunately it does not have the sunroofs. And the seats are non powered. She pretty much a bare bones disco. I always kid that the SD stood for stripped down. I also have the original bumper to go with the truck if someone decided they didn't want the ARB. Thanks again to all those responding. Ted 96 Disco SD (for sale? maybe) |

I paid $6,500 for a 96 in excellent condition. It has cloth interior, third seats, 88k miles, rear cargo mat, Simba brush bar, stock alloys with Michelin XPC. No sunroofs, no rear a/c, no rubber floor mats, no running boards, no front fog lights. Just an idea. Good luck. John BTW, I'm on the east coast |

Hmmmm........ What it's making me wonder is, since '96 was the first year with the 4.0 with the problematic valves, is that hurting the price? Is that why a '95's value is coming up with higher price than a '96? I'm puzzled...... -L |

Blue book value is odd. When I enter my 96 SD with the following: 84k miles auto CD leather oversize offroad tires brush guard GOOD condition I get nearly $10k on private party and about $6500 trade. Not included in the valuation is ARB locker & suspension. Sounds like Ted's mileage & manual trans are hurting him. I know my CD, leather, & tires and lesser condition rating aren't worth over $2k. |

it always floors me when I drive around and see crusty old minivans, ancient ford F150's, and other assorted old junk with for sale signs asking $5k. Hell, look at all the ancient FJ40's for sale for $5-10k..."collectible" rigs that are really just constant projects in need of serious work. Then you find that you can buy a mid 90's Discovery for the same price. Best kept secret in town..... |

Lesli, shhhhh.... don't let my D1 hear you...it doesn't know about the problematic v-a-l-v-e-s yet.. You are absolutely right Blue. The wife and I talked about getting a Volvo wagon when we realized we could get a D1 instead and have more fun (for less money). John C. 88 RRC 96 D1 (soon to be Official RRC recovery vehicle) |

The disco's worst enemy, its reputation for reliability, is also its greatest asset if you're shopping for a used one, as it depreciates like a rock thrown down the Grand Canyon. It's a great time however to pick-up a '95-'96 D1, as their depreciation curve is just about to level out. This means you can pick up a well-maintained one for around $6k, drive the hell out of it for 4 years but gives it average upkeep, then still sell it for only a couple grands less than what you paid, since the rig really can't really depreciate much more, and the "love it or hate it", but definitely non-trendy styling helps keep demands up. Another plus is the average person can't tell the difference between the D1 & D2. Look at used prices for late 80's, early 90's RRC, I personally think the D1 will fare as well or better. Last but not least, let's not forget the cachet/mystique of a LR. How's that for depreciation? |

Let's just hope that if Ford turns the much hyped DIII into an Explorer-Soccer mobiel, that the DI's will escalate in value much like the D-90............(gasp), I guess holding my breath won't do any good. |

I agree on a second disco theory. My wife drives our 95 Disco (99k miles) daily. I am planning on retiring my 92 toyota (+/- 180k miles) and would like to get another 95 Disco or 94-95 County LWB. My drive to work is 10 minutes so mileage isnt a problem. I agree that its much more of a car/truck for 5-7k than anything else out there. Its also true that to a non-rover person, u cant tell the difference in a 95 from a 97/98 until you get to the ones with the different door handles. People can't believe its a 95. |

another facet of the second disco theory: it is highly probable that one of them will be running at any one point in time. yet another facet: you can rob from Peter to keep Paul running. |
