I am headed off to Colorado at the end of this week and will be towing the Disco. (96 D1 SE7) The easiest most achievable option would be to two-wheel tow it. I know this requires dropping the drive shaft, which I don't have a problem with. But that is about all that I know, I don't understand exactly why I need to do this, to some degree... but not entirely. Also, is it as simple to un-bolt, and bolt as it appears? Do I need to secure or do anything else? Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate the help.

Although not an answer to your question, why not rent a flatbed car carrier from U-Haul or equal. We unfortunatly went this route recently with a RR behind a Suburban from CO. to Tulsa. Trailer did not have electric brakes and wasn't that bad to stop. Much kinder to the Rover.

That is the secondary option... I would just prefer to go 2-wheel if it is not a problem. But I don't know whether or not it would be... ?? Thanks Jaime.

Clif,

Why do you have to drop a driveshaft? Which shaft are you talking about, front or rear? Can't you just put the tranfer case in Netural? Am i missing something here?

That would be awesome, like I said, I have zero experience and that was just what I had picked up from other people in the past. So, it is alright if I just throw the t-case in neutral?

Clif,
Pretty sure there is a section on vehicle recovery in the owner's manaul. In mine with the RR it discusses towing on a flatbed or with a 2-wheel dolly. You might want to review what it says. Still feel for peace of mind, use a flatbed trailer.

I think that in the Disco ser.1 manual it says to tow the truck using a flat bed but, if you can't I believe it says to put the transmission in netural and the transfer case in netural and tow it that way.

Cliff, you're absolutely right, if you don't have rear locker, pull the rear driveshaft and tow it with 2 rear wheels on the ground. it ain't that big of a deal to disconnect the front at the axle, and flat-tow it.
