is there a difference in first gear ratio? Trying to get as low as possible here :-)

The auto is 2.48 to 1. The 5-speed, I think, is 3.32 to 1. Hope this helps.

yes but you have to figure in the torque converter into the autos ratio to get a more equal comparison....most torque converters can add as much as 3to1 to the true full load crawl ratio.

thats why you can get away with a less deep ratio in the transfercase and axels of a auto vehicle.

the problem is you cant lock a converter manually so down hills they coast and cause RUNNAWAY!!!!!!!
