I am thinking about purchasing a 1998 or 1999 D1. I currently have a 1994 D1, so I am framilar with some of the ups-and-downs of the D1 (I've been luckly, really. The only thing that has given me fits is the dual sunroofs, and I think that is in part because of some DIY work done by a previous owner.)

I would appreciate any opinions on the later D1s. What is better and what to look out for and what is a reasonable price. Thanks.

Try playing around with Edmunds and Kelly Blue Book for prices.... FWIW, I got $18K for my '99SD (but, I wouldn't have paid that for it, not with 81k on the odo)....

I really liked it, it was just an economic thing why I let it go.... I'm getting a '95 tomorrow, for a lot less.

The 4.0 is, unfortunately, prone to needing a valve job.

Good luck,

Congrats Leslie, you had better get down toward Knoxville or invite me up that way sometime soon after your purchase:) FWIW perspective buyer, I've got a '96 with 114k on the clock, and even though it's a 4.0 things are still working just fine, with the usual quirks and problems other than valves. Later.. Roberto

LOL!

This one is for the wife, to replace her Subaru that was totalled.

Don't worry, though, one day, it'll be mine....

Buyer, Leslie is right on about the price. It seems you can get a 99SD for 18K and just look for the lowest mileage you can get. I paid 18 for my 99 back in April with only 36K miles. It had just come off a 3 yr lease... lots of them around.

I just picked up a '99 SD with 55K for $16,900. Great shape, brush guard, running boards (now removed), Hella lights, etc.
