What's the deal with the Disco 3? They haven't added shit to make it a better product, gain market share or persuade me to upgrade from a D1. Compare it the new Nissan Patrol/Super Safari. What the new disco has ugly new front end, A little bigger engine up to a 4.6 and a back up warning light, Big deal. I hate to say it but Nissan has it's act together on the new Super Safari that they import to Asia and the Middle East. A 4.8 on only 6 cylinders with variable valve timing system, 5 link suspension which can handles speeds up to 200km/h, 2 fuel tanks, One at 95 litres the other at 40. Push button electric locking differentials, A center console that works as a freezer. Side airbags, And 7 passenger rear seats that have sliding and reclining functions are to just name a few. If you want spec I can give those too. I just LR needs to get their head out of the sand.

Not sure if this is the same vehicle, however, this one is rumored to be coming Stateside. Like like a AMC Gremlin to me!! butt ugly.

Mike,

Then Why don't you get yourself down too Nissan and trade your disco 1 for a real truck. Must be that a Land Rover is not for you. Remember though you should never use your xtera as a repelling anchor point. (I must warn you not to try this at home.)

they don't have to since most of their sales are from the lattae drinking social climbers who don't want a 4x4 they want a car that looks like a 4x4.. And Ford is just the people to sell it to them.

I have to give LR SOME credit here. They did add the CDL back into the new Discovery. Even if it's optional it's still a good move and a better improvement than the bigger cup holders that was added last year (or the year before). Now if we can only get a more reliable engine and axles like the D1.

Here is the pdf for the UK's Patrol.

My family had a 2 door Patrol in Chile during the 80's and it was wonderfull. Very basic, but unbreakable. IMHO, it would be very popular within our group for its offroad abilities.

Mike,
The problem is truly great to us equals low sales to Ford. We all hate it but volume and mass appeal is what sells trucks and turns profits. I just wish Land Rover would give us 1 true off-road truck without all the fancy stuff and then make every other model appeal to the masses. That would be cool! But I think those days are gone. In just a few short years Land Rover will no longer offer Live-axles on any vehicle.

Sign of the times I guess. Who knows, maybe Nissan will figure this out and bring over their toy. I heard the reason we don't have the Patrol right now is that it won't pass rollover test and would be rated as poorly as the Samuri (sp?). We all don't want that do we. We can't give the media anything else to cry about.

Suck it up I say... Sorry a little off-topic.

the Patrol on that UK site looks like an older Mistu Montero. What is the point with a vehicle we can't even get.

How will Ho deal with a vehicle that only comes in "Yellowish Silver"? WTF is that?

Looks just like a Montero - been there, done that back in the 90s.

Ok.
I own a 1992 Discovery and a 2002 Nissan Patrol. It is true that the Nissan is rugged, and has a lot of potential in it: you can still get it with a carb, 200hp minimum, 2/4 wheel, Huge (1.5 37 spline rear axles), 33s without a lift, everything. I have spent a total of 24$ on it, and it has 4,200KM on it. The first 4,200Km on the Disco were financially prohibative.
I will never ditch the Disco, since it has grown on me as a "mate" and not as a tool. It may sound stupid, but it is true. The Nissan is just another 4x4, nothing to it.
To each his own I guess.

Yellowish silver? sounds like a urine type color to me...a sign perhaps?
