So all of a sudden I've got power out, but not in. Solenoids are ok, and there's power to both the field terminals and the armature. It sounds like the bumper's coming off this weekend and I need to find an electric motor shop to clean/repair a field winding. Any suggestions? Am I waaay off base? Its a Superwinch X9 in a SG bumper, btw. |

Keith, try and loosen the four bolts on the foot of the winch where it mounts to the bumper. And then see if that works. You may need to shim up the foot of the winch until it's level for the winch to work. It's quite common on new installs and 99% of the time it seems to happen on $G bumpers. |

Thanks Al, but its not a new installation. Its been in there for four years now and has always worked well. I was going to straighten out the cable after playing in the mud last weekend I pulled out the wadded up cable (freespool works ok) and couldn't wind it back in. |

Did you knock the bumper against something that could have caused it to get twisted a little? |

Keith , it could be a short in the controller activating both solonoid at once. Remove one of the leads of of a field terminal and check for voltage again.... Actually test each solnoid taht way. In and out Kyle |

Thanks guys. I actually did wind the cable in after I used it last, just not very neatly....and I had smacked a mud bank just before that. The solenoids seem to be providing 12V to the appropriate winch motor terminals on demand...not to both at once. What is it, "F1" is out and "F2" is "in", or something like that...now I didn't use the digital voltmeter, but it looks like 12V. Keith |

Well you need to see if that post is being fed from a short inside(Back feeding) or from the solonoid itself. If the brushes take a dump it can back feed... Yeah , I know I am not very clear , I hate typing... Kyle |

Oh its not that you can't type, it probebly has something to do with my ability to r-e-a-d. I'll pull the cables off the motor and check them separately....still probably need to take it off and get it cleaned up inside anyway, no? Keith |
