hey, i always hear folks talking about deep water crossings and stuff that is obviously over the 22 inches that the owners guide says, and i was wondering what all have different people done to their trucks to be able to cross through deep water? its always cool seeing people do that, and i want to, but im not sure what i have to watch out for. thanks! |

I just raised all the breather tubes. A Mantec snorkel may be next. And as Dave said a lift. |

Step one: raise the breather tubes (F/R diffs, transmission, t-case) at least to the top of the fire wall. Step two: copious amounts of silicone... put it on all the electrical connections. This should help keep the water out. Step three: Electric fan. you can turn it off before the crossing so that it doesn't chuck water up onto the engine. Step four: Throw a snorkel on that truck. If you use proper water crossing techniques (walk the crossing first, check river base, proper bow wave, etc) , you probably don't need a snorkel but it sure does give good piece of mind and is a good just in case. No matter what you do though, be prepared for the reprecussions: potential to get water in and on the carpet, computer, etc. Change the diff fluid and repack the bearings more frequently, etc. Nathan Hindman http://www.PangaeaExpeditions.com |

Or you could try to stay out of the deep stuff all together. Nothing will render your truck useless and worthless faster then hydrolock. |
