Alrighty,
I've got the urge to remove my fog lights/spoiler from the front, but really hate to cut the thing off...is there any other way other than removing the entire bumper? If I do remove the whole bumper and go either with an ARB type, or homegrown model, what is involved in removing the bumper? I'd really hate to do something stupid and release the airbags...etc. Any and all help would be good! Thanks.

D1 or a DII?

removing the airdam and lights only takes like 15 min. just unscrew a few screws from the airdam, disconnect the lights and you are halfway there. now just trim the endcaps along the small depressed ridge along the side. use a dremel or a sharp box cutter.
you can go with either a non airbag compatible or airbag compatible ARB front bumper. the non airbags ones are stronger and less expensive. (the airbag versions have crush cans to absorb energy from light accidents)
rob d. had mentioned he had a light accident in his non airbag ARB at about 20 mph with no delpoyment of the bags.
this is information regarding a DI.

Yeah,
sorry about that! It is a D1...my lovely, squeaking, inefficient beauty...what a rack she has!;-) Any way to remove the air dam without cutting it off? I don't guess there is...and I don't suppose it could be reattached either. I know that's a weenie standpoint to take, but man...I make payments on that thing! Thanks for the info, and keep it coming!

well the airdam does not need to be cut off. just take the few screws off. but once you have it off you have the 'fangs' of the bumper caps hanging down. you will want to snip them down so they are closer to the level of the bottom of the stock bumper.
ahh. just do it and then later you can toss it away and get the ARB. i have had my truck trimmed up for a year or so and am just waiting to get the ARB here soon, once my current project(s) are done.

John,

Do it yourself or the trail will do it for you, and take extra stuff with it.

That's good,
"ahh, just do it..." And they say peer pressure is dead! I'll look into it. Thanks again for any and all help!

Good point!,
Yeah, other parts of the disco are already seeing this effect. My first trail ride helped me "decide" to remove my running boards (actually I left about 30% on the rocks), and mud flaps, and also helped me "realize" that the rear bumper doesn't need to be straight...an up-angled end is just common sense :-) Can you say newbie? Oh well, I've lived a little more, learned something too? We'll see!

Actually,
I think it seems more like a smirk...as if it knows that it's superior to most vehicles that will get behind us...she's got an attitude, I guess.

LOL!! :) John, you don't know how much I can relate to your posts ... could have written it myself (actually, have written almost exactly that, heh, heh). Okay all, I have to fess up: I STILL have not trimmed my front bumper.

"Do it yourself or the trail will do it for you, and take extra stuff with it."

Tom, It's almost like that's what I've been waiting for! ... just what all else will it take with it? (I have a D2). I think we're a good 10 -12 months away (monetarily) from new front bumper, with springs & shocks, etc. We did put a mild (2") lift on though with some slightly used MD OME springs (777's I believe).

LMAO! "Ricky"'s not quite there yet, but close.

Yeah,
its pretty humerous the way she smirks. So far, she is resisting the rural NC toothless grin. Her "teeth" are still in, although precariously. I just looked out in the parking lot. She's down there parked next to a 97 J##p. She's sitting there all holier-than-thou, and the J##p just squats there with his eyes bugged out, looking insecure! She has no name yet...hmmm. I need to think...

Name: "Ricky" - yep. As much as my hubby (and sometimes even I) wished it would not stick, the name has stuck. (there's a story behind how "Ricky" got his name, John. :)) .. it just happened.

OK, (I'll give it one more try) here's the latest on "Ricky" with non trimmed front bumper: (last weekend)

File size might be too big.. I think that you need to be at least under 50kb for it to post the pic.

Yeah, I compressed it down to 46kb, but something's still not working - could be my browser? I'm on Outlook Express now .. I'll go fiddle around in the practice area ..

Alright, apologies to all for my 'puter illiteracy ... Here goes again (you know, this is stupid, not even a rip roaring trail pic, ... I just have to make it work...) Update of "Ricky" last weekend:

But I still want to know, what other things can I damage besides the fog lights, air dam, ....?
