Ignorant rubber

I was looking at the "tires and wheels" section of the 'Tech' area.
Never having had to buy tires before, I am totally ignorant of how the numbering system on them works (example: 235 75 R16 ? ).
Anyone care to give me a quick lesson?
Thanks!

Whats missing there is

R=Radial construction

Letter in front of R is a speed rating. Not sure of actual values implied, but the higher the letter, the higher the speed. H is common, and for years V was Very High, as in 125 or more. Lately there are also Z rated (245/45 ZR 17 eg) tyres around, which I think are > 150. You commonly wont find off road tyres with more than H rating I think, but if your truck is capable of significant speeds, check for the speed rating you need.
