2001 D2: The rear door does not lock. I don't know how long it has been this way. Anybody have any ideas? |

BW, When you lock the vehicle, either by remote or key insertion, can you then go and open the rear door? If so, does the alarm activate or not. If the alarm activates, then your locking mechanism is not getting power. If the alarm does not activate, that means the BCU is not sending or recieving a signal to the rear door latching mechanism and latch switch. Paul '00 pig |

Paul, The alarm does activate. I thought about that before. I can feel and hear the power coming to the back door when I activate. The manual lock "plastic thingy" tries to go down but doesn't. She's under warranty but I don't like taking it to the dealer three hours away. I'd much rather fix it myself. I'll bath the "plastic thingy" in WD-40. Maybe that will do the trick. BW |

BW, Then I would remove the rear door access and check out the linkage between the plastic "doohicky" and the locking mechanism itself. Removing the rear door panel is simple by using a #4 standard screwdriver wrapped with a couple layers of electrical tape. Good luck, Paul |

Paul, I got it worked out. I had replaced the rear panel with the diamond plate months ago. The problem was one of the "new" screws was a little too long and was interfering with the linkage. I just removed that one screw and now it works just fine. Thanks for the help. |

Sweet! Diamond plate Eh? Could post a pic of that. Sounds interesting for mounting stuff. Paul |

Yeah, diamond plate. Actually, I wanted to stay away from the diamond plate "look". However, the material is easy to cut with a jig, light and fairly strong. So I cut it to shape so that the rough part lies in-ward. I then spray painted the slick side with a flat black. BW |
