I've just started to use synthetic oil. I'm using Mobil 1 and Fram filters. My question is, for normal use (mainly highway use, long distances) when should I change the filter and when to drain/replace the oil? Thanks |

Check the archives, lots of traffic on this issue. To gas the fire, I find it unusual that you'd spend the $$ for Mobil 1 but then buy the cheapest filter out there. May or may not make a difference, but if you search and read oil filter tests, Fram is always rated in the lowest section. Other good, inexpensive alternatives to the dealers, like WIXs or BOSCH. Just my opinion. I'd still cx the oil and filter every 3k just like non-synthetic. |

Instead of the Fram filter, why don't you just stuff cotton in a tin can and use that? Stay away from FRAM. As for your question, I use Mobil 1 with long Crosland filters. I change my oil every 5k miles. Seems to work good like that. Longer filter has more square inches of filtering media. |

K&N oil filters rock my world. They might be a little pricey, but hey it gives you a good reason to put a K&N sticker on the back of your car. hahaha. The bigger the better! Ask your local zit faced Mustang owner on where to find one. JR (Seriously though, the filters are excellent. After going from OEM filters to K&N I could tell a major difference in the sound of the engine. Add synthetic oil to the mix and you've got one happy Discovery. They also have a "nut" at the end of the filter so you can take them off with a 1" wrench instead of a filter clamp. That's a major plus when you have a vehicle that drips like Discoveries do.) |
