Hey gang, I have this non-Rover 4x4 that I will be doing some offroading with. I've got quite a bit of off-road time in an old S-10 Blazer (4.3, auto) and a whole "class" in a new Discovery (auto) but never in a standard. I was wondering if some of you guys could give me some tips? I am pretty good at left foot braking to ease up and down obstacles, but now I'm afraid of stalling. I won't have a chance to do some runs until tonight or tomorrow as the truck is in the shop getting the final few problems fixed. Surely experience is the best teacher, but I'm sure there are tips! I've had it in 4hi and 4low in a dirt parking lot just to make sure it worked. With that low gearing, it seems to practically drive itself... creeps along slowly with minimal throttle input. So.. any tips? |

no matter how tempting it becomes dont ride the clutch, either go or don't go but don't go creeping around or balancing on stuff with the clutch half in. Sure you will have to do it SOME but just try to keep it to a minimum. |
