Anybody have an idea of the availability of rear adjustable shocks for the DII? Rancho, ProComp, Fox, others? I can't seem to find a source. This is on a vehicle with OME medium duty springs. |

Rancho 9005's. Those fit with 2"-3" of lift. If you only have an inch or so of lift, they may be too long. |

Thanks! That's a start - I can get the specs for that and match to a shock with shorter travel lengths, similar to those of the OME shocks I have now. |

Should anyone else be looking, I'll pass this on: Found what looks like a fit - Rancho #9246 -- extended length = 22.875", compressed length = 14.25". The ends are eye/bushing ends, don't know yet what will be required to make the mounts fit - add or remove bushings, change bolt size, etc. - but it's a start. This shock is listed as an application for a Ford Expedition, so the valving should be strong enough for the DII. |

watch the compression size if you are at 14" plus. Although, with Rancho, that's about the best you can do and still get that kind of travel (22"+). RS9112's give you a bit more travel, but they are about 1.5" taller, and the taller shock will require a larger bumpstop to avoid the possibility bottoming out. ltr's are a bit pricey for what you get, really. but that's just my $.02. if you want to over-spend on a shock, really overspend and get some dual-valved bypassed king's and say screw it. /mike |

I looked at the OME ltr's on EE, but from what I gather they are adjustable in the sense that you change the nitrogen charging, not something that seems to be conveniently done. I need adjustability in the way that the shocks are stiff for a weekend, and back to less firm come monday morning. SG sells a Fox remote reservoir shock with dial adjustability, but they are for 2 - 3" lifts and aobut $650/pair. I could throw away four pairs of Ranchos for that price (which may happen anyway). I had a pair on a 4-door Montero several years ago and they worked fine, just hope they will still do the trick. Incidentally, the Rancho 9246's, by spec, compress 1/4" more than the OME, that's why I'm assuming it will work. King's? I haven't heard of these - where can they be located? |
