Has anyone out there used the new Goodyear MT/R? I
want to put a set of solid steels on my 97 D1 w/ either BFG All T/A or these MT/R's. The MT/R's actually got better writeups all around (Tire Rack, etc.) I want to use 225/75-16 on the steels.
I use my Disco 80% on the road so I want something not too loud, but when offroad, I don't want tires to limit me. Any feedback? Thanks...Jon

Hey Jon,

I just ordered a set of 5 Goodyear MT/R 265/75R16 tires and will be installed on Thursday. I'll post on how they feel after the Killington road trip.

I have the MTRs and they are nice tires. They will make more noise at highway speed then those BFG ATs will. Also, the MTRs are nice and quiet when you first get them but as they wear a little they get louder. Still not as loud as the BFG MTs though. On wet streets they work pretty good. I haven't noticed a difference between the MTRs, stock mich, and Dunlop RTs in the rain. However, the MTRs do much, much better in the mud. I don't know about snow though cause I haven't gotten the chance to drive in any yet. I'd say I have about 7000-8000 thousand miles on mine. I have some chunks tore out of them in the rear but, that was my own fault for not trimming my rear fenders enough which ended up cutting into them like a knife. Aside from that they have resisted rock cuts quite well.

Yeah Yeah Yeah Kyle,

I know, they are not the Michelin XZL of choice. I am awaiting heckling from Ho about this. I'll be sure to send him a picture of the MTR's when installed.

Ive been running MT/R's for 2 years now. They are without a doubt the better set in this comparison. They arent loud at all, and cant hear them in the slightest, but then I have a roof rack, so I dont hear much of anything but that.

They wear really well, so it will be a good 2 to 3 years before you get a chance to see how they sounds worn down.

We just installed a set of Richard's old ones onto my brother's disco 2. They really don't make any noise. The only thing I noticed is the wobbly handling compared to the stock HPs. Just doesn't feel as stable doing slalom tests.

Tried them out on the trail this weekend, and as I expected, the truck got stuck on the same hills as it did with the stock tires. Go figure. :)

I just took the first road trip with my MTR's from OKC to Breckenridge CO, after about 4K miles of wear. I don't think they are as loud as the stock POS HP's on the road, and they give a better ride. Offroad they were great, what an improvement over stock!! I also feel a little more "float" in the truck on the highway, I can't say I am excited about possibly making an emergency stop.

245/75 MTR at 35K miles. They get louder at 20K miles. They have worn very nice so far and I don't rotate my tires untill 30K. Plenty on highway driving and yes they are not as stable as stock Mich but' they are after all, taller with off road tread. Under heavy panic stops they wander a little but not bad. Off road, I think they'r inbetween mud tires and all ter tires. In the snow, very good if there is solid ground to dig into. On beach sand, airing down to 15 or 20 PSI a must. Airing down in deep snow helps but these things are meant to dig.

So far, I still like these and will prob replace with same.

30K and still counting.

What kind of trail driving are you doing? Is it mud or sand.
Around here we have alot of sand and my BFG AT K/O handle better than my friends MTR's and anothers BFG MT's. Of course, when we do find mud then they win. On rocks I would have to say it was a toss-up.
On the road I feel mine are much better in all situations. They don't make the ride to wobbly, the tire noise is not as bad and the darn thing won't ware out. I have over 43,000 miles on them and they still have a ton of tread left. I want to get 235/85 R16 but I can't justify getting rid of these.

Thats my opinion.

Hey Jon,

Here are a couple of pic of the new 265/75R16 MTR's on my pig.

These tires weren't too bad on the road trip to Killington. In the mud and rocks they worked great. I won't mention anyone's name but....(HO)...might give you a hard time because of the name. :)

Yes Kyle, I know it's shiny. That's what detailers do, They polish my turd.....

Enjoying the pics and comments but if i can query back to original post for a moment guys :)

Have BFG ATs on my 98 D1 here in oz at the moment. These are the latest KOs and have run older series before. They last plenty of miles and happy with performance for mixed city/trail driving providing they dont see too many rocks. They seem to cut up pretty badly pretty quickly. Have been considering the MT/Rs. Any comments on how much tougher these are? or not?

Well Dane,

I have ran the BFG AT's on my previously owned Dodge. In my opinion, the tire construction alone makes the MTR a stronger, more durable tire. The tire sidewalls are even steel belted during the manufacturing process.

Disclaimer: This is my opinion after owning the tires for 2 weeks with one road trip for a weekend of trail diving.
