Does any one know where I can purchase a gas can carrier that bolts or straps to the spare tire. (1996 Discovery) Thanks Ed |

Ed, That's putting a lot of extra weight on that rear door... those won't be happy hinges if you add that much extra weight on there. Most 'good' carriers don't go onto the spare, but instead they mount to the body/frame... look at a D90, the spare is on a swing-away attachment... much better than putting it on the door itself. I agree with Leslie, it is a lot of weight, but I did it anyway. Over time you would need to adjust your door some. I converted my Safari Gard hi-lift carrier to a jerry can holder. Works pretty well. Rotated the bracket 90 degrees, drilled new holes, got a military surplus can holder (the kind you see mounted to the rear doors of jeeps), mounted it to the jack bracket. With just a pin holding it, it is very easy to remove it when needed. |
